Original article: Obama's borrowed words

Late to the party, but wanted to say...

Nice try, Ms. Walsh. I don't blame you for giving this pathetic non-story one more push, in the hopes that the public will say "hmmm, well, it seems to have taken on a life of it's own, because it's still going 4 days later," but no dice. Senator Obama neatly put it to rest tonight by echoing what most people who are not die-hard Clinton supporters like yourself (or GOP trolls trying to stir things up) believe. It's silly. The blatant lifting of a line from Senator Edwards (that he had himself lifted from President Clinton) was just a cherry on the top of the sundae.

But also: you're "not sure" Obama would make a better president than Senator Clinton? Is that a hedging of the bets we hear? Will you be jumping on the "I only hoped he'd toughen up in the face of the relentless attacks" bandwagon once Obama is the nominee? Will you do an honest post-mortem that shows that this campaign season was a perfect storm of a near-flawless campaign by an underdog combined with a brutally incompetent and sloppy campaign of a presumed nominee? Or will it all still be Chris Matthews fault?

It's time to face facts. This was a botched campaign from day one. The "Xerox" line was comical, and not in the way she meant it to be. If it wasn't for the tearing-up moment in New Hampshire, this thing would've been over weeks ago.

Original article: A few debate thoughts

Two and a half thoughts

First, I think it's worth noting the similarity in style and tone between Sen. Clinton's "moment" last night, and her "moment" in NH (yes, the crying). Since that has been the only thing that worked for her in the entire campaign so far, it's worth mentioning that it could have been just as calculated for the same reason (i.e. seen as a concession, makes her seem sympathetic).

Second, w/r/t the joke, I think this was the same as the "you're likeable enough" line. It was damn funny, and it's only because Team Clinton has the "perceived slight-o-meter" set to high was it discussed as anything else. For someone who claims to be such a fighter, her supporters sure seem to rally around her and cry foul at some awfully innocent stuff.

And for the half, nice to see you back, W.E.S., we were starting to worry that you'd been fired from the RNC trolling station. Keep up the string of semi-coherent double and triple non-sequitur posts.

No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.

Ok, I feel better now. Sure, it's a free country, he's free to run, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. Can we please stop treating this election like it's already over just because we're running against Grandpa Simpson? We lost by 537 votes in 2000, and maybe by a few crooked tricks in Ohio in 2004. The last thing we need is this vain egotistical asshole siphoning off even 10,000 votes in (for example) Pennsylvania that hand the White House to John McCain.

To repeat, no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.

@rupert_c

Your'e right, we don't want you in our party, just like we don't want any other single-issue morons who won't work to build consensus and just take their ball and go home when things don't go exactly their way.

This is what killed the Democratic Party in the 70s and 80s...nothing but whining malcontents who refused to back a candidate that didn't support their agenda 100%, consequences be damned. If a candidate was (picking a random example, I've got no particular axe to grind with these folks) pro-choice in 99% of cases but happened to think that parental notification with strict judicial bypass was ok, the pro-choice people went nuts and either a) torpedoed the candidate or b) stayed home. You see some of the same stuff happening on gay marriage now, but thankfully, there's less of it. One of these days, you Nader people will wake up and realize that the way that adults work is by consensus-building, compromise, and working with people, not by standing on the sidelines and throwing your feces at everyone else.

Ok, that was a little much. Sorry about that, it just bugs me when you guys claim he didn't cost Gore the election. If you'd just admit that, I'd be all for him running to satisfy his enormous ego.

Original article: Dems condemn Nader

one response...

I honestly don't remember, but I think it was Obama who said that Nader was the one who told us back in 2000 that there was no difference between Bush and Gore. Now, everyone who voted for him...raise your hand if you still agree with him...I thought so.

Here endeth the lesson.

I hate even bringing this up...

...but HRC would be eating Chris Matthews' liver with fava beans and a nice chianti if he ever said anything remotely clsoe to intimating that Hillary was a bitch that could get things done.

Remember? How the thing about words is that they matter? Except when they don't? Or something?

That being said, I still love Tina Fey and Barack Obama both.

@ducati

Someone already mentioned that 3 way bulbs are available, but be careful before you buy a bunch of them. I recently bought one and realized that the base (not the part that screws in, but the part just above that) was much larger than a standard bulb, so that it wouldn't fit properly in the lamp when the shade was on.

Otherwise, I've never had a probelm with CFLs, I've replaced about half our bulbs with them and haven't had one burn out in 2 years.

No, GoBucks is a handle, but there's a difference. You can click on GoBucks' other letters and see if he/she is being disingenuous, a consistent voice supporting a different view, or a troll (you know, like you).

Loyalty?

Like Scooter Libby loyalty? Alberto Gonzales loyalty?

I'll take judgement over loyalty any day.
