MaddieP - time to win
[Read the article: A "September 10th mindset"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]9/11 is not off limits. The GOP has used 9/11 - a day of stunning defeat for America - to show how strong they are. We let them get away with that.
They continually claim that Dems actions, or lack thereof, will cause another 9/11. So why can I not bring up that the GOP's inaction resulted in the actual 9/11?!?! Because it "isn't nice"?
If an American general failed to act on warnings, got a brigade surrounded and wiped out, and then made a pretty speech on top of a pile of dead GI's about how we'd get revenge - we'd be horrifed and demand his head on a platter. And we'd be right. W should have been relieved of his CIC duties when he refused to stop reading "the hungry caterpillar".
That is not partisan. That is coming from someone who demands accountability. I'm not sure what you do for a living, but I imagine you are held to a higher standard that W has been for 9/11. And I am sure you never got to spin your biggest eff-up into a big win - we do not get raises and promotions for LOSING accounts, we get them for WINNING accounts. At least in the real world.
Christ, they tried to blame Clinton for 9/11. When are you going to hit back?!?!?
And is there any more straightforward message than this...
Bush term 1 - GOP inaction and incompetence gets NYC hit, major US city knocked outta commission for months.
Bush term 2 - GOP inaction and incompetence leads to NO residents being left to drown. Major US city knocked outta commission for years.
McBush 3 - Will GOP inaction and incompetence lead to YOUR city getting knocked outta commission for weeks, months, or years? Spin the wheel if you like...but you may want to start stocking up on anti-anthrax drugs, canned goods, and shotgun shells.
And one last thing. THERE HAS BEEN A TERROR ATTACK ON US SOIL SINCE 9/11. The anthrax attacks killed people and terrorized citizens. The response was to implicate the most likely suspect, quickly find out it was not him, and then go home and watch "American Idol". The terrorist was never found.
So that makes not one, but two 'evildoers' who attacked America and were allowed to get away with it.
GOP - weak on defense, weak for America. Ineffective solutions that cost a lot!!!
Tada!

A total non-issue
[Read the article: Obama opts out of public funding]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But this should have been announced on the Friday preceding the 4th of July holiday. Now it will get 2 days of news coverage.
If you like Obama, it does not matter. If you do not like him, it does. If you are undecided, you are probably in that category because you are not following politics closely. So they will miss the story.
And if they say Obama lied about campaign financing, just run $30MM in TV ads saying "nu-uh, I didn't lie". The system is all about money, and it is nice to have that edge for once. To give it up would be silly. American voters punish candidates who do 'the right thing'.

Wrong or stupid?
[Read the article: McCain counsel disputes Obama camp's account]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]NOT opting out would be wrong and stupid. Give the people what they want - they want to be bombarded with ads to tell them how to vote. They want someone else to do the thinking for them, if not O'Reilly then the ad campaigns.
If you ran enough tv spots you could get people to vote for Pol Pot in this election. The average US voter makes their mind up based exclusively on the advertising, so more = better.
Who are you kidding? Are you so naive?
And Obama needs more money because he needs to combat the "he's a muslim' scumbag tactics of John McCain. He also has less media markets "in the bag" than McCain does - because the square states all vote GOP all the time.
So maybe McCain wants to keep Obama poor for a reason, huh?
One again - it is all about the $. You can decry that, you can ignore that, you can wish it wasn't so. But that is the game, one invented / perfected / perverted by people just like John McCain. Odd now that the GOP is cash poor they'd want to change the game, huh?
And 70% of voters will not even make a note of this story.

Obama haters out in force
[Read the article: McCain: "We will take public financing"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You guys want your woobie, or your rattle? Stop crying.
Read the "pledge", it required cooperation from McCain. The McCain campaign - just like the town hall BS - designed an issue to paint Obama into a corner. If Obama had oped in, they'd have opted out. He opted out, so they opted in.
Why?
Because none of it matters anyway, the money is going to be out there no matter where it comes from. The "noise" level will be equal to the cumulative funds raised by candidates and independent groups. The size of the bucket is the same either way, but the label on it is different. All nonsense.
However, you cannot put a price tag on making Obama look like a liar. So they did the opposite of what he did. Same as with the town hall meetings. They refused to negotiate an acceptable agreement, and just sit on their hands and wait for Obama to make a move. Then McCain gets up on his cross and cries. TYpical GOP victim mentality.
And why would anyone believe McCain negotiated at all> Because he said so? He's a serial liar. He's a serial flip-flopper. He lied about the war. he lied about Bush's tax cuts. He lied about how financing of his own campaign would be conducted in the primaries - he lied and/or cheated and/or stole depending on how you look at it.
McCain is a liar...but now he's telling the truth? C'mon. I know you liked Hillary better, and that's OK. But it is now clouding your ability to process information.
And more Americans will see "the Love Guru" than spend one second paying attention to this non-story. Gone by Monday.
