  • Great Info

[Read the article: "Hardball": Barack Obama is no Neville Chamberlain ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And, of course, all of this assumes that Americans wer gung-ho to get involved in the European War...if only their leadership in Congress had not let them down by appeasing Hitler.

Uh, Georgie Boy, you may have missed this when you skipped American History 101 to get drunk and go to cheerleading practice. GERMANY DECALRED WAR ON US after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor!

  • That is precsely the case to be made

[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Charles Barkley once said that every player in the NBA, even the worst of the worst, scored 30+ points in HS and was then highest scorer on their college team. His point? "Any knucklehead can score." Real talent, the stars were where they were because they could do everything.

Fact is - I can get any idiot of the street to use military action as options #1, #2, and #3. Any dope can bomb someone. Anyone can climb on rubble with a bullhorn for a photo-op.

What we need is someone to head off disaster, prevent costly wars from starting, and get this country out of Iraq.

There is absoutely, positively NOTHING remarkable about McCain as a presidential candidate. There is no basis for it.

  • You are mistaken

[Read the article: Wolfson calls planned Obama declaration a "slap in the face"]

If they support Obama they don't "work hard". Even if they are white. They probably went to college and stuff. Those losers!

  • The Gun Issue

[Read the article: Why don't those hillbillies like Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Right on, this should no longer be framed as right vs left - that is too simplistic.

I am anti-gun when I am traveling in North Philly to pick up my wife from school, or when I travel through West Philly, or when some dude is being a jerk at one of the Old City bars.

I am pro-gun when I visit my in-laws, who are rural American hunters with large rifle collections.

What we need to do is stop the "all or nothing" debate that is largely the fault of the NRA and the GOP. We wanted to have our own gun laws in Philadelphia, ones that would not apply to the rest of Pennsylvania. The NRA came down in force to have the legisltaion overturned.

But the fact is, the GOP benefits from the debate - so they'll keep it going. In just the same way that they never seem to get around to outlawing abortion...the wedge issue is just too good to "win" on.

Lastly - most of America does not follow politics. At all. They do not vote in their own self-interest because they think government is for someone else's benefit. These people are front-runners. They vote for whoevere is ahead by a lot nationally. That is why there are few close elections. So, Obama is right to concentrate on the coasts and his base. Run up the numbers and the rest follow. They are like people at the track who bet on the favorite right before post at 1:5 odds (like those who bet on Big Brown, they just want to say they were with the winner).

    It is that simple, really.

  • @ Ron

I bet you were watching the same show I was last night!

I had the same thought, that rural Americans who benefitted from FDR's programs begat generations of Americans who hate social programs and government spending.

Nowadays the suspicion of government is too great. These same people would rather be out of work than turn to government for a solution.

How did this happen? Why the dramatic shift? Because the Dems pressed Civil Rights, and we lost them.

So, how am I not supposed to observe that race plays a factor here? Without being called an elitist?

  • Would help McCain

[Read the article: News from Israel: Bush wants to attack Iran soon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

So why wouldn't they do it?

Dead soldiers, in the short term, always help the GOP. That rally around the flag BS helps them. This is so cynical, yet it works and the GOP knows it. It is just a shame that soldiers have to die so that McCain can win Florida. Truly a despicable act but we've seen much worse.

And, in the unlikely event that Americans reject the Iran War (and 42% will support it forever) and elect Obama, that means that his first 4 years are shot. And then they can get the man they really wanted - Mitt Romney - in for 2012.

They just love America and Support Our Troops so damn much, don't they?

  • Mark Penn was never let go

It was a lie she told to get 'hard working whites' in PA to vote for her.

Just like the 'gas tax holiday' was lie to get 'hard working whites' in IN and NC to vote for her.

The lie is put out there, and then forgotten 5 minutes after the polls close. That is her game.

But Mark Penn is worth 10% to Obama in each primary, so I hope they keep him.

  • Yawn

I knew you would say that when I wrote it. But since WV was such a nice moment for you, I decided to let you have your moment. I think that, mentally, you need that shiny bauble.

Here is someone who was in the White House for 8 years, was an influential Senator for 8 more. And WV is what she has to cling to. Hahahaha!

Maybe she would have had a chance if her strategy was not plotted by a man who did not know the rules. He built her campaign on winner-take-all of CA and NY. Unreal!

But she has 'great judgement', right?

  • I hope that Mary Kay rep

Was black. Because using that term in opposition to a black candidate is insulting and ignorant.

But there is OH for you. A few mere decades andt they will lose the ability to make fire.

    Typical bitter 'hard working white'.

  • Without Mark Penn,,,

Hillary would only need 73% of all remaining pledged and undecided Super Deleates.

Since he is on board, she needs 83%.

What happened to the Gas Tax Holiday?

Where is the "little break" that only elitists opposed?

    Did she forget?

She gonna win by 62% in KY? Unless she does it meas nothing.
