Yes, it is cowardly...
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It is cowardly to post anonymously, while at the same time you are ACCUSING millions of women -- millions! -- of excercising their free will and autonomy to be simply "afraid of inconveniancing themselves". For example, we don't know if you are a woman, if you are a fertile younger woman who is capable of getting pregnant (perhaps by rape)...or if you are another big-mouth, lip-flapping male troll.
What on earth could be "inconveniant" about NINE SOLID MONTHS of carrying a baby inside of you, expensive medical care, restrictions on your freedom and behavior (diet, etc.), all kinds of risks to YOUR health (pre-eclampsia, etc.), 12-18 hours or MORE of agonizing back labor, medical costs without insurance of at least $6000 (and that doesn't include any possible emergencies, in which case the sky is the limit) and THEN eighteen years of rearing that unwanted child? Golly, gee, I can't imagine. If you are a MAN, oh ye brave "anonymous", with no possibility of ever enduring 18 hours of back labor, then you have no right to speak on this subject whatsoever.
There is an insultingly naive attitude on the part of anti-abortionist that all these unwanted babies can easily be placed in loving two-parent adoptive homes. That's hogwash! There are no homes for anything but perfect, white infants. Handicapped infants, black and mixed race infants, Down's syndrome infants, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome infants -- they are much harder to place, and if there were suddenly hundreds of thousands MORE of these children EVERY SINGLE YEAR it would utterly drown the current Children's Services in all 50 states.
If you read ANYTHING about foster care, you know that they are already swamped with hard-to-place children, and their record of keeping track of and protecting foster kids is dismal. And that's NOW, when abortion is legal.
I don't see any cowardly "anonymous" male trolls, or anti-abortionists, who have any particular plan to deal with over ONE MILLION unwanted infants EACH AND EVERY YEAR...in fact, with more than that, because they also want to ban birth control and Plan B. (Oh, right -- people will just stop having sex. Right.)
As far as the idea that the US is under-populated -- gee what are you smoking? Just 30 years ago, we had a population of around 200 million. Now it is THREE HUNDRED MILLION. A goodly chunk of that is immigration, but still -- where exactly do you see millions of UNWANTED BABIES fitting into that? How will that make this a better world?
Do woman-and-child-hating cowards like you have the remotest idea what is involved with giving birth? with caring for an infant? do you have the remotest idea what diapers cost? or a visit to a pediatrician? what is your brilliant plan for providing health care to these millions of unwanted babies? or an education? I am sure you have some incredibly lofty, brilliant and fantastic plan -- please elucidate us.
As for your ridiculous squeamishness: gee, I hope you never have to undergo something like eye surgery...because that's incredibly gross to watch. Or a hernia operation. Or a proctologist at work. If you were the least bit intelligent, you would know that every invasive medical procedure is difficult to watch, involves blood and guts and medical waste.
Most abortions -- at least 90% -- happen in the first trimester, when the fetus is about the size of the tip of your pinky finger. Therefore, the photos used by anti-abortionists are somewhat suspect, since they depict fetuses who are 5-8 months along. I have read that many of the photographs used for this actually depict MISCARRIAGES, that anti-abortionists have mislabeled as the byproducts of abortion and sometimes they have been tampered with to make the photographs more disturbing! I can't prove this, but it makes sense if you consider the other lies and distortions they are all too glad to continue putting out there (abortion causes breast cancer, etc.)
