time tested child rearing methods
[Read the article: I'm a mom who needs more solitude]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]when my mother got pissed off and couldn't take it anymore, she'd tell me and my brothers that she was running away and never coming back, and then she got in the car and drove away. she'd come back in two or three hours.
sometimes she'd drive by some old forts and tell my brothers it was the "bad boy's house" or school or prison and warn them if they didn't behave she'd take them there.
i was the oldest of five and never had any playdates. i don't know if one's childhood playdates are safe with parental supervision, as all of my memories of my childhood friends have a lord of the rings quality to them. i say, do not introduce your child to other children, for your child's sake.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, lord of the flies that's what i meant. Though i did resemble Frodo then.
My mother's reign of terror was good training for absolutely nothing. I still suck my thumb from the lack of nurturing and I am 30 years old.

Predictable Season
[Read the article: Finale wrap-up: "Top Chef"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]it was so obvious that either richard or stephanie was going to win, based on who had received more good feedback and who had more won challenges the entire season. the whole season was so predictable. also, dale was cut too early and i think it's because the show didn't feel like having a hung clone win. there was no way lisa was going to win- it wouldn't be good for the show to have a sweaty unpalatable bull dyke as their front runner. the show tried in vain to create some tension and suspense to the very end but this season was extremely predictable and unexciting. also the teaser had richard saying something shocking to the judges and i thought it would be something way better, like, "i hate lisa and she sucks" but instead it was an underwhelming " i choked." up your game top chef!

[Read the article: Isn't she lovely?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]this speech made me throw up in my mouth. it was so self congratulatory and vapid. Obama's leaving a big law firm, Sidley Austin, to make 100,000K a year at a "public interest" job while Michelle was still raking in the big bucks is not much of a sacrifice, yet they keep milking that like we are frigging morons (i guess their supporters are- they eat this stuff up). She later left her big firm job to make 300,000K a year hugging children at a private hospital where they would turn away anyone without insurance. Whatever. The Obamas are total hypocrites. They were in a tax bracket back then that Obama now wants to tax the crap out of. Sitting there subjecting myself to Michelle's know it all preacher cadenced inanities made me want to gouge out my ears. And who let her brother speak? He was worse than awful.

[Read the article: Isn't she lovely?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What's the great accomplishment? Getting into Princeton based on affirmative action, then getting into law school based on affirmative action, and then getting an over $100,000K salaried job based on affirmative action, and then getting a $300,000K salaried job based on your husband's political ties, and then getting up on a podium and saying how great this country is (something she didn't actually think until she had to make this speech)? Cool. That took a lot of work. Love living in a meritocracy. Oh wait- the great accomplishment isn't anything she actually did, it's the mere fact that she's black and did some things. Wow. Call me underwhelmed, or call her speech self-congratulatory, i don't know. Also, her "accomplishments" are in direct contradiction to her and Obama's supposed stands on issues like health care. Whatever, that doesn't matter to you because with Obama supporters it's really not about the issues, it's about being a cool liberal with a superiority complex based on nothing.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]why is it racist to dislike affirmative action? affirmative action is what is racist.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]just because i disliked michelle's speech doesn't mean i like bush. i don't like bush. i don't like legacy admissions and i don't like fema dude. i hate most politicians and think they are a bunch of morons and hypocrites. i think obama and bush are about equally stupid, but one is more articulate. my main gripe with obama is his plan to redistribute wealth thru an unfair tax plan. i don't like his plans and proposals, and affirmative action just gets on my nerves. when i went to law school and found out my black peers got 20 points less than me on the entrance exam, and were also getting scholarships, i developed a bit of resentment for the policy of affirmative action.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]i am not the children of oppressors. my family is POOR and had nothing to do with oppressing black people. not all white people are rich former plantation owners. some just showed up in this country in like, 1900.
please strip me of my wealth. i am like 200,000 dollars in debt.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]My family doesn't have any wealth. seriously. i know this might be hard for you to accept because you can't wrap your mind around the idea of a poor white person. To be accurate you should have said: "your family's poverty, built on the back of [the] unfairness... that blacks experienced throughout the bulk of this nation's history... would be stripped and we'd all start the game from square one."
Doesn't make any sense does it?
As far as i'm concerned, i did start the game from square one. maybe negative one. my parents were violent alcoholics.
