not that subtle
[Read the article: Profile of an abortion clinic]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The LA Times article states: In Arkansas, for instance, the state constitution sets out "to protect the life of every unborn child from conception until birth."
Keyword: until. Interesting that no one gives a fuck what happens after that. Unless the baby is female and needs to have an abortion when she grows up, of course.

i second that
[Read the article: Have a Paris Hilton holiday!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You beat me to the punch, heddache.

I could have written this letter...
[Read the article: I left New York for San Diego and now I don't know where I am]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I moved from Miami to Portland, sight unseen, at the age of 23. LW and some others are absolutely right - it's not about scenery or homesickness, it's about feeling you've wandered onto a completely different planet where gravity doesn't apply and the lifeforms are hydrogen-based. I've been here seven years now; I've learned a lot about myself and the world, and there are very few situations where I'd even consider moving back home. That doesn't change the fact that I feel out of place - in Portland, in Miami. I'm too 'aggressive' for the West coast and too... easy-going? practical? sane? for the hot, sticky mess that is Miami. I've been trying to think of someplace that's not here or there but where both sides of my personality will have a chance to flourish. I'm pretty sure that place isn't even in the US.
So to LW: don't give up, either way. Take Cary's advice and take stock of what you love/hate about East and West. Then do something entirely different. Remember that rush of accomplishment you felt when broke new ground in CA? You can - and should - have that feeling again. And again and again, if that's what it takes for you to find your true home.
-
Should I be worried...
[Read the article: What, was "Mandy" already taken?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...that Hillary came across as a much better actor than Bill?
-

[Read the article: House subcommittee authorizes subpoenas against RNC]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You should also know that almost nothing is ever permanently deleted - there are backups among backups on server after server. If they actually wanted to produce the emails, it could be done. It's that Congress is asking the wrong people - they need to subpoena the hosts.
-
it only took 4+ years...
[Read the article: Despite unmet benchmarks, Bush presses forward with Iraq policy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...but Bush is finally almost right.
"The same folks that are bombing innocent people in Iraq were the ones who attacked us in America on September the 11."
They may not have been in Iraq when we first invaded, and they may not be the same Al Qaeda that did actually attack us, but now some folks that are just affiliated enough to bear the official Al Qaeda name are in Iraq so I guess that's close enough, right?
-
What am I missing here?
[Read the article: RNC has already handed over some documents, may withhold others]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only way the RNC emails are covered under 'executive privilege' is if they contain information regarding official government business, which is, in itself, a violation of the law.
-
take it to the courts, already!
[Read the article: Another round in the executive privilege fight]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Conyers said that as the White House "does not have possession, custody or control of RNC documents ... the White House [does not have] any legal right to object to the production of documents from the RNC at this point."
Game. Set. Match.
(I purposely omitted the candy-ass 'we do not believe' part.)
-
yoink!
[Read the article: Kudos to Bill Donohue -- really!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That's the sound of Rev. Rude's tax-exemption status being summarily revoked.
-
maybe
[Read the article: Will the real Colin Powell stand up?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just maybe... he's waiting until after the election when a Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld prosecution for war crimes won't be so disruptive to national government?

[Read the article: Karl Rove to resign]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'd be happy if I thought it was going to make any little bit of difference.
-
"i'll be around"
[Read the article: Rove: Bush has his own brain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"I 'd love to be around for them. In a way, I'll be kibitzing from the outside -- [the president] knows my phone number, and I know his."
I said just as much when the news broke yesterday; Rove 'resigning' isn't going to make a bit of difference.
-
seriously
[Read the article: Feeling the Shrum love]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This guy is so lacking in hubris and self-awareness, why isn't he a Republican?
-
sorry
[Read the article: Feeling the Shrum love]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Make that 'full of hubris' and 'lacking humility.'
-
"this hack is potentially most useful for foreigners or frequent travelers"
[Read the article: The iPhone has been unlocked. Sadly, it's still not really free]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...and those who've always known t-mobile is the best cellular service out there.
-
are you kidding?
[Read the article: Yahoo beefs up e-mail. Should you ditch Gmail?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yahoo servers were intermittently down barely two weeks ago for nearly five days running. I've used gmail for over three years now, keeping an Inbox window open the entire time I'm at work, and have never had a problem connecting. Which reminds me: I don't know if Yahoo does this, but Gmail regularly refreshes on its own so I always know when I have new mail. That's a huge plus is my book.

this *is* a story
[Read the article: "I heard a man open his heart up"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If only because sex scandals are the only thing the Republican base pays any attention to.
-
@NineNine
[Read the article: Bush knew Saddam had no weapons of mass destruction]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The people dreamed and fought and slept as much as ever. And by habit they shortened their thoughts so that they would not wander out into the darkness beyond tomorrow.
-- Carson McCullers from The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

how sad...
[Read the article: L'Engle's last wrinkle ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...that I didn't hear about this all weekend...
-
@bignose
[Read the article: The surge is working! The surge is working!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That comment, my friend, deserves a big fat Editor's Choice star.
-
rhetoric and action
[Read the article: What didn't the president know (and when didn't he know it)?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Forget what Bush says. Who is going to do anything - anything at all - to stop us from invading Iran?
Senators? Generals? Soldiers? Is that what it's going to have to come to - more soldiers refusing to deploy, pilots refusing to fly?
This is what we, as a country, have been reduced to: hoping for the military to save us from ourselves.
-
no pay for lawyers
[Read the article: Libby drops appeal]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now what happens to all that money in the Libby defense fund?
-
blah blah blah
[Read the article: And sometimes, people are just wrong]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is there anything going on in politics besides primaries? Like, say, Bush in Israel perhaps? Or a bunch of other stuff I don't know about because you guys won't talk about anything besides the campaign. Isn't that what the Roadies blog is for?
-
@edgore
[Read the article: Poll: Republicans have sex more often]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You beat me to it. When I read this, I thought, "yeah, but is this sex with their spouses?"
-
who cares?
[Read the article: Obama can't win general election, Clinton advisor says]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Why don't Obama and Clinton focus on attacking McCain already so we can choose based on who seems better equipped to beat him in the general election?
-
good!
[Read the article: Clinton, Obama talk peace]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The only competition between Clinton and Obama should be to see who can better kick McCain's ass in the general election.
