but a serious breast reduction and discrete tummy tuck took care of the clothing issues that seem to torture our author. Wife (and subsequently) I are happier for it..
The letters so far are mostly quite useful. As someone who manages money (my own, and on the side, but not for a living) - i'll reiterate a few things. $3M is not much if that is all you have, especially without health insurance (if you are not working! - remember the medical malpractice claim gets paid indirectly though your health insurance, another reason it is so expensive).
Suggestions:
1. Go to vanguard.com or Schwab.com - - place 2.5 M in a preferred account - they will assign a "no charge/no commission adivsor to you". Advisors who charge no fees but get paid by the stocks they recommend are not to be trusted (they cannot be objective, by definition). You can get about a 5% return on your investments at this time - pay 40% in taxes, and keep about 3% - 75K per year
2. Choose a field that you would like to work on or study in -go do that with all your heart.
3. use the above $75K for fun - elaborate vacations, helping family (some) and friends (some).
4. If you don't have an answer to #2, consider volunteering somewhere in the world - you live only once!
Sincerely,
Raj
Another real life example of the professor's musings would be the vast commercial complex that is called "Bollywood". The Indian movie production complex, in Mumbai (formerly Bombay, should we now call it Moolywood) appears to be as strong as ever, despite almost all videos/DVD's sold on the streets being pirated copies. Similary, movie songs are also pirated and probably constitute a very high percentage of songs/CD's sold in India and abroad. These high rates of piracy does not seem to impede the movie-industrial complex much.
In addition to comfort, the two scientifically proven solutions to balding include:
1. Minoxidil: you can buy the Walmart generic for quite a bit less. this is no prescription.
2. Propecia: pill - this is a prescription medication (again, you can get the generic finasteride for a lot less).
Both the above will help him keep his hair for a much longer time.
I have used both, intermittenlty, for a few years, and it has slowed the process.
Your boyfriend could also consider hair transplant - not a bad choice, but expensive ($5,000 - 10,000). If he feels the need to have hair, why not help him.
I'm not sure why Cary appears to be against cosmetic surgery or treatments....each person's anguish is their own to solve, if possible.
Suvarna = "lady" or "Mother"
Bhumi = "earth"
Therefore, a literal translation would be "Mother Earth". The words are actually derived from Sanskrit (an ancient Hindu language).
