I think these guys are based in LA, saw them for the first time a few weeks ago. The delivery was immaculate. Great songs that I never heard before. And Saint John plays and sings like he's on fire. Small venue (The Gig or something like that) so it was very intimate and I got to meet Saint John after the show.
If the shoe was on the other foot, and it was president-elect McCain making these selections of nomination opponents of whom he had pointed out un-electable weaknesses, we would not be so kind.
I am very much for giving Obama support and wishing him well, I believe that out of all the choices the American people were given, he was the best one for the job. But let's be honest about his choice of Hillary Clinton and how it compares to how he ran his nomination campaign. He wanted to win the nomination, so when he told the American people that she wasn't qualified to be president, he either believed it, or he said things that he didn't really believe. Or possibly a third option is that he convinced himself that she truly wasn't qualified so he would feel justified in saying those things about her and not feel like a liar. None of these options are very good for the American people.
Either she is qualified, despite how he pointed out that she wasn't qualified, and he lied to himself and/or the American people, or she isn't qualified and he is making this selection despite his better judgment for some nebulous political gain. I'm going to guess it's the former, and although he ran a relatively very clean campaign, we can still admit he said things that weren't true so that he would win the nomination.
In the end I think that Hillary is very smart and qualified to be Secretary of State, and she will probably be much better than many of her predecessors. I think we should still demand that our elected officials be more honest though, and we should still criticize them fairly when they are not, even if it means we have to point out some of the flaws of one of the most historically significant election winners ever in U.S. politics.
