Original article: The baby and the petri dish

His answer said more than anything else.

I wonder if Andrew Wilkow realizes that by refusing to answer, he sounds worse than if he had gone either way. He refusal to comment simply said, "I am more worried about my appearance than what I truly believe." That's the weird dynamic with the wingnuts. People are quick to point out that the left is misguided because we have no cohesive platform, but I'd rather be a part of a movement of free thinkers than a block of people who aren't allowed to have their own opinion.

Interesting theory, but probably not a good one.

It's an interesting theory, but I don't know that it would work. Nine other states have bills banning abortion floating around, so it is just a matter of time before Roe V. Wade goes before The Supreme Court. With predictions mounting that John Paul Stevens, one of the more liberal Justices, possibly retiring soon, now may be the best time to mount the battle. Hopefully Justice Stevens will wait until Bush is out of office to retire, but if he doesn't, Roe V. Wade may very well be overturned by Bush's next choice. There will no longer be court balance.

I love it!

Despite the little mistakes on the veryfancyfrist site, I absolutely love this. This is a democratic tactic I can get behind: Sassy, Poignant.

Indicative of Society as a Whole

This entire affair is indicative of the direction society has taken as a whole. The problem with third-wave feminism (and I happily include myself as a third-wave feminist) is that, all too often, we allow ourselves to be objectified by the media in the name of being "good sports". When we complain about media depictions, we're "feminazis", and we hate the title. The reality is that women are being turned into objects, and it is perfectly acceptable to be rude and violent to something that isn't worthy of feelings.

This type of thing is going to keep happening online and off as long as we allow Pam from the Office to appear nude on the cover of "Wired" and we think those Suicide Girls are web pioneers owning their sexuality. Why shouldn't men reduce women to a serious of orifices when we allow it ourselves?

What is happening in the blogosphere is scary, not only because of the level of intimidation going on, but because it chases other women off the web.

Destroy my television? Why... I want to kiss it!!

Let me just clarify: television bad. Internet good.

Huh. Okay, if you're going to rock old school on us, don't post. Just think it - we'll get your overly superior baby boomer vibes. We can't escape them anyway, so you just throw them out there and don't bore us with the banal "destroy your television" rhetoric on biggest global broadcasting medium: the internet.

Excellent recap and I believe I will need to TiVo "Life After People" in hopes that the white tailed deer will finally get their chance to eat the suburban housewives who have been running over their furry relatives in their Suburbans. Awesome.

Surely this isn't suprising?

When has Microsoft ever done anything with altruistic intentions? They've produced buggy and substandard products for years and have happily shoved them down consumers' throats because of market share. I was more surprised to hear they were even considering their scholarly pursuits than to hear they are stopping them. MS won't do anything that isn't going to make them an instant buck.

Eye Roll Headache

This whole concept is so offensive. The hot mom's club? Really? It's for cheerleaders who eventually pop out spawn. OMG! (hair flip) I totally had a baby! (hair flip) But I'm still so much hotter than everyone! (hair flip) My life is still only defined by the way I look! (hair flip)

When you have nothing to bring to the table but your looks, this is what you have to do. It's just a shame that society continues to buy into it with such flourish. If the guy who wrote the song really wanted to praise motherhood, he certainly could have written a song about mothers in general, not just the hot ones.

Finally, lonewolf, let's hope you stay that way. Seriously.

"Daisies" love.

Count me in on the Pushing Daisies fan list. We TiVoed every episode and watched each knowing it was just a matter of time before such a wonderfully inventive show got canceled. The big networks suffer from a lack of imagination and then whine when the cable networks win the big awards. Once in a while an imaginative makes it to the air, but the nets never give those shows time to grow an audience. They canceled Daisies while so many other God-awful shows continue to live on (Heroes, Gary Unmarried, and anything described as "reality" are good examples).

I also watch Grey's, although lately it's been begrudgingly. The plot lines are repetitive and boring, the characters either annoying or pathetic - or pathetically boring. Rhimes never should have spun off Private Practice because she took one good show and made two lifeless ones.

Original article: The sexing up of Tina Fey

It's so hard to be a man.

It's just so hard to be a man. What, with all us women not wanting you to think about us as nothing but a set of tits.

Strip clubs are a part an industry that does need to go away because we *should* be better than that. I'm sorry if that makes your man parts sad, but the reality is that the stripping industry hurts both sexes. It abuses women and teaches men that it's okay to treat women like pets.

Tina Fey shouldn't have to be tarted up to make a dime in Hollywood, but until both men and women stop putting most of a woman's value on her looks, the sad truth is that she has to succumb to slut in order to succeed. As for Maureen Dowd, she lost the thread a long time ago. Sad, but true.
