Isn't it sad

Hagel's name is floated as a potential VP simply because he says the dauphin's new threads don't cut it?

People get mad at Jon Stewart for not asking the hard questions .. on a comedy show? But "news" organizations get a pass, I guess. Not because they should, but because we've (rightly) given up on them to do their job properly.

Looking for a good candidate in the opposition's ranks, griping because comics aren't good journalists. Tsk Tsk.

Things are looking seriously fubar'd. I blame the Republicans. And the DLC Republican-wanna-be's. And the stealth Republicans (eg Feinstein). And the enabling spineless sycophants (Reid, Pelosi etc). And the corporate-owned press. And everyone that couldn't see through Shrub's pack of lies.

The last thing this country needs is "compromise" with the "right". The "right"wing nutjobs have driven us into a ditch. The car's stuck, the tires spinning, and still they scream "turn right! more! more!"

A Republican for VP? Fuck that. I want a foreign-aid-giving pot-smoking UFO-watching make-love-not-war tree-hugging green elitist west-coast-latte-sipping A+ student pro-choice impeach-their-asses peacenik for president AND vice-president. Anything less than a 100% refuation of the last 8-years' nightmare puts spilled blood on all our hands.

Original article: Fox News responds

I have a dream...

that everyone, regardless of race,

- walks out of the Fox studios,

- stops giving money to Murdoch's class warfare propaganda machine.

Oh yeah, and Shrub perpwalking to The Hague!

Holy Message Control, Batman!

I'm not sure I believe this - can it be elected Democrats are demonstrating EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION?

Incompetence only extends so far

@ Mysticmom

You're misunderestimating him. Shrub isn't clueless or manipulated about what he wants. Shrub has successfully executed every one of his constituents' objectives, disguising his malice with a smokescreen of incompetence and deception.

Things might have been different if Poppy and Babs had been responsible parents, but that is neither here nor there. What we have is a dry-drunk coke-head egomaniac that's finally gotten himself into so much trouble, even daddy's fixer can't bail him out.

Shrub's only chance of redemption is to undergo reeducation at the hands of some Commie Chinese a la The Last Emperor.

If it were only that easy for the rest of us.

Words, grammar, language - all are important choices; all are deliberate choices.

Please explain to me how you can "mock" drowning someone that isn't actually drowning.

Your use of BushCo word tracks betrays a sublimated allegiance, ignorance, or negligence. Which is it?

Original article: Scott McClellan comes clean

Pretend it's 1946...

And Joe Goebbles has penned a confession saying he didn't think Hitler really meant to kill as many Jews as he did, and anyway most of those bad ideas were from Goering. And gosh, Adolf was an artist at heart, and he had a good heart, God bless him.

Maybe it's true that Joe really believed in Adolph, really thought the Germans got a raw deal out of WWI and needed some relief. Joe really believed that Adolph wanted his native country to help his neighbors to the north. Joe feels bad about what happened. Joe didn't really want to mislead his fellow countrymen, but there was hard work ahead, and maybe his fellow countrymen wouldn't have the benefit of Adolph's foresight.

So maybe the Germans actually got shafted by Versailles. Maybe some of the Germans really knew what was going on with the concetration camps, but most made the tragic mistake of trusting their government. So maybe Joe doesn't have a completely clear conscience and writes a book. Telling the truth makes the hurt go away.

Should I just buy his book and let it go?

'pushback' =

lying

cya'ing

I like Rove's version of Subliminal Man:

Scott wasn't in any of those meetings, (that I recall).

I didn't break the law at all (that I recall).

I didn't do anything evil (that I recall).

One (minor) quibble

GG wrote:

I'd change this to:

"The primary reason why this preposterous myth persists is because the media generally refuses to engage in any MEANINGFUL self-examination."

Oh they love to talk about themselves in the most trite of ways that define narcissism, but rarely does the discerning eye of a critic go unpoked.

Wow, did I have Electro Robot wrong

All this time I was thoroughly enjoying [insert correct possessive pronoun here] posts, thinking that ER was doing a parody of a right-wing idjit.

Just goes to show how hard it is to be a satirist these days. Among other things.

Though they hunger for substance

.. they shall receive nothing but mindless drivel. So, the Gozilla vs Megalon of all horseraces is over, and the "news" networks still can't deliver substantive content. So much for the Invisible Hand working it's marketplace magic.

Would it be too much to ask for a just a little substance? Is that too difficult a task? Is Obama the only person that's realized that after years of brain-numbing dissemination from the The Decider and his enabling minions that people, maybe, just maybe, can handle being treated as adults?

Original article: Cheney's bogus oil argument

And exactly what is wrong with bashing Bush?

@-- Asher Steinberg

Can one bash Bush too much? I think not. In fact, one might argue that for the sake of our country he hasn't been bashed enough.

re: Gwool

"I have absolutely no doubt there will be distortions and falsehoods spread about BOTH candidates from the fringe elements of the respective parties."

The GOP *is* a fringe element.

What is it about what the Preacher said that so upsetting?

That he said it, or that he's right?

Original article: Hey, it worked for McCain

That never stopped them when it was a GOP press release.

[Thus spake the corporate shill], "the letter was not a letter to the editor... It's a press release from the Clinton campaign."

Because the M$M would never act as stenographers or propagandists.

Sunday, February 10, 2008 09:20 PM

Glenn, I have to nitpick your choice of words

You said, "Fox is obviously entitled to broadcast whatever propaganda it wants...."

I must disagree. Murdock, Ailes, and Wallace are free to felate Shrub anytime on their own time, not mine.

Fox, like every other broadcaster, uses our public airwaves and agrees to serve the public good as a condition of access. While I concede that particular clause is the appendix in the body of FCC regulation, that doesn't mean they are entitled to do using the public airwaves.

Perhaps it's time to exercise that portion of the regulation with regard to their license?
