"... [the author] he also fails to realize that even an imperfect system is better than none at all."
This is demonstrably false. "No system" to destroy The Constitution is a superior choice to a "flawed system" to destroy The Constitution.
This classic overreaction to 9-11 demonstrates a number of failures with our system, some of them being:
- the travesty of justice that was the Bush administration
- the natural tendency for a few bastards to profit at the public trough at the publics expense
- the abject failure of our educational system to provide a reasonable foundation of civics
- that Americans, such as yourself Andy F, are whiny cowards that have deserve slavery instead of the freedom so preciously earned by our forefathers.
In short, fuck off.
"We can win if we simply wipe conservatives off the map. We'd thus stop the source of their weapons."
There, fixed it for you.
"If this investigation ends with a conclusion that there's reason to proceed, then there'll be a fuller investigation and that will lead to the actual decision on whether or not to prosecute."
What, exactly, leads you to believe there will be anything beyond a few token scapedgoatings? Please provide any evidence there will be a full(er) investigation.
To the author: perhaps you should start using phrases such as "the Justice department states...", "an unnamed White House source claims...", "the GOP issued a statement condemning..." etc preceding any declarative statement.
For example, "An off-the-record source in The White House today suggested that IF this investigation ends with a conclusion that there's reason to proceed, then MAYBE there'll be a fuller investigation and that MIGHT POSSIBLY (in an alternate reality) lead to the actual decision on whether or not to prosecute."
my suggestion was to:
a) suspend the healthcare plan Congress enjoys unless and until they fixed healthcare
and/or
b) Congress extends, to everyone in the US, the same healthcare plan Congress enjoys (for $1/yr). We could pay for it by withdrawing from the Persian Gulf, firing Blackwater, and/or levying a lobbying surtax.
BTW, I see the trolls are really out in force these days. The insurance bureauocracy must have plenty of time on their hands to post their bullshit nonsense here.
We didn't "leave the Taliban" there. We created them there to fight the (other) Evil Empire. Then we abandoned them there. And thus our 'good' comes back to haunt us.
But that is irrelevant.
What should we do now? Absolutely, we must fight the good GWOT. We must grow the military industrial complex. We must hire mercenaries. We must torture. We must abridge freedoms at home.
We must feed the monster .... Otherwise the terrorists have won. Right?
-------------------
Sideboard Question:
Do you conflate the Taliban with al Qaida?
I appreciate the thoughtfulness presented here (esp in contrast to the gop skinhead trolls bravely defending the corporate oligarchy).
But.
I see no evidence that Obama is moving in the right direction with regard to national security. He seems intent on perpetuating, if not expanding, the egregious policies initiated by BushCo.
The first step when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging.
Glenn, why do you hate our freedoms so much?
/snark
it would be the Connecticut Yankee posing as a cowboy.
Please add my vote to ditching the new format. Color - bad. Font size - bad. Writer's name - worse. Writer's name's location - worser still.
and Walsh is wrong.
Are there any Jews that don't want Lieberman to be President for any reason other than his religion/race? Or are they all only afraid he will shame the Jew brand?
... does know a thing or two (or three) about breaking the law.
And, like everyone in the "personal responsibility" crowd, I'm sure he doesn't see any connect between the sorry state of affairs and his behavior.
So criticism from the Left directed at Bush has exactly the same merit as the bullshit spewed from the "Right"?
I don't think so.
... and further
I don't see what's the problem with calling a spade a spade. If Carter sees racism as a motive, he's got a responsibility to say so. Maybe calling out the GOP lies and bigotry for what they are won't affect the nutjob faithful, but the rest of us appreciate the acknowledgement of reality.
Beck is a demagogue, are you?
Beck is a substance-abuser displaying signs of mental instability and incompetence. What about you?
Beck is a sideshow clown, pied-pipering the ignorant masses hynotized by Murdock's media monopoly off a cliff. The only problem with that is the nutjobs are dragging us with them.
... but we're going to do it anyway.
.. for doing his part to get Shrub elected. Fuck him and his new show.
In other words - misdirection, deception, mendacity .. lying.

To address why "Conservatives" don't want illegals to buy insurance (like that would happen anyway), that's simple. Cons want the damn dirty brown people to subsidize the teabaggers' existence without any chance of personally benefitting. Illegals pay taxes without getting any benefits, but buying insurance, that's another story. They might get sick/injured and actually use it.
Doesn't Obama understand those babies need to grow up so we can bomb them as adults?
The crazy dazed vacant look in her eyes speaks volumes.
He obviously typed that whole column with just one hand.
the GOP discovers its compassion for the little people. Cap and trade will hurt the middle and small business. Nothing about the low classers yet, but they're getting there, right?
