Two quick suggestions:
[Read the article: The death of hi-fi?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dear Mr. Marchese,
I think you may be asking the wrong questions. Please consider contacting a high-end audio salon. Tell them you write for Audiofile and are curious. Ask to hear the "Ferrari" system as it plays back vinyl, cd, mp3, wax cylinder or whatever. See what a cost-no-object stereo can do.
I fell down this rabbit-hole ten years ago and am glad I did.
Afterwards, determine which formats you prefer, weighed against convenience, and decide how much YOU would be willing to spend, and how much hassle you want to deal with. I love my mp3 player on the subway, but when I'm at home, I listen to the good stuff.

Perhaps if we just focus on our personal ideologies
[Read the article: The science of strippers' tips]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]and ignore or pooh-pooh any results we find objectionable, then we can be as moral and as patriotic as Focus on the Family. Or the current EPA.
On the other hand, maybe it's better, when analyzing science, to focus on the experiment itself and the soundness of its methodology rather than on whether the object of study makes us feel icky.

The good people of Ohio
[Read the article: GE to Ohio: Turn off your light-bulb factories]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]should simply continue to vote for Republican presidents. Surely cutting taxes, banning gay marriage, etc. will revitalize their manufacturing base.

I dunno . . .
[Read the article: School for housewives]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If the fundies want to drop out of mainstream society and keep their kids at home, let 'em. They'll only continue to marginalize themselves. With the Republican Party on the wane, the job-pool for those who hold degrees from places like SBTS is getting dryer every year.
Meanwhile, think of all the science we'll get to teach in the public schools. Let a thousand bunsen-burners bloom!

We?

Yes, but . . .

I'm so sick of this dodge
[Read the article: Clinton, Obama and Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]that the Senator "was traveling / in NH / in her district when the vote was cast." How convenient! I can do my banking from any computer in the world. I can make a phone call from anywhere there's a cell tower. Maybe we could work it out so our reps can vote 'yes', 'no' or 'abstain' no matter where they find themselves on the day in question.

As a resident of NY
[Read the article: Judiciary Committee approves Mukasey]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I will not be voting for Senator Schumer henceforth. This is merely the latest in a series of Republican-lite capitulations and doublespeak.
And I won't be throwing my vote away on a Green candidate, either! I'll vote for his Repug opponent. At least I'll know where he stands . . .
Thanks, Chuck!

[Read the article: An inconvenient truth about venture capital]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]People just don't want to believe it. By all the visible calculus, Gore either runs for president or discredits himself and his cause.
I'm sure the trolls will jump all over this post. Al Gore scares the s**t out of them because 1) he's been right all along, and 2) they've already slung all the mud at him they can.
PS - Can't wait for all the fresh-air and new ideas Hilary is going to bring to the party!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]How did humanity ever make it? All those millenia without fossil fuels . . .
The generation of carbon dioxide IS a human right (breathe much?). But contrary to your assertion, there is an awesome ammount of energy available to us from the sun. Low efficiencies (around 10%) are all we'll need.
Off Topic: Wah Wah! Al Gore uses electricty! Al Gore drives a car! I have a serious argument to make! Wah!

My letter to Edwards:
[Read the article: Your Harry Reid-led Senate in action]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Senator Edwards,
As a contributor to and supporter of your presidential campaign, I fervently hope you will call attention to the FISA debate and the issue of “retroactive immunity” for lawbreaking telecoms.
Retroactive Immunity. It pains me to type it. What a PR coup! Doesn’t it just sound so much better than “breaking the law then getting away with it because you are rich and connected?”
This is a winning opportunity for you; a chance to take the moral high-ground and embarrass your rivals who benefit from telecom contributions and support.
I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that in addition this is a strong issue with the netroots. You will be sure to gain internet exposure. The corporate media can hardly cover you any less so there’s little to lose.
I am confident you will emerge as a leader against special treatment for telecoms.
Best wishes and regards,
-
May I suggest?
[Read the article: A not-so-super Tuesday?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The voters in the above-mentioned states should vote for Edwards.
He is white, male, southern, and the GOP have already thown all the dirt on him they have to throw.
He will fare much better against McCain or Romney than will a black man from IL (with a name that sounds foriegn and scary) or an already much-hated "triangulator."
And don't forget, people. About half the country actually voted Bush in 2004.
