Why allow anonymous posting?
[Read the article: Salon's new letters registration policy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose as far as discouraging anonymous nastiness?

Great Review
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Mr. O'H,
This is the kind of review you do better than most others; where you really dive in and ask interesting questions, without taking the usual step of "summing things up" with any kind of definitive (and artificial) summation. In doing so you really communicate, to me, the experience of watching a film. I find myself not wanting to see the particular movie itself so much as inspired to take in as much cinema as possible. Thanks for your good work.

"Uphold Decency"
[Read the article: No more whining excuses]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I doubt I am the first to ask, but how on earth can you talk about "upholding decency" with a straight face? You sound like the MPAA.

It's a movie review
[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]All you buffoons who are criticizing this article for its "position" re: bestiality: the article has no position. It is a movie review. Did you read it? If you had, you might have gotten the irony in the fact that O'Hehir talked about people bashing the film as "pro-bestiality" without having seen the film, and now a new round of doofuses is somehow assuming the review is pro-bestiality and bashing it w/o having read it; or if they have read it, their reading comprehension skills are embarassing.
It bears repeating: This is an article ABOUT A MOVIE.

Schilling's blog
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]King, did you read Schilling's post about this mess? He does a pretty good job trashing some of the media hacks.

Rack 'em up, electric ties
[Read the article: "Spider-Man 3"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Does this Gordon person think that the movie reviewer person is supposed to write about the veto instead of reviewing a movie? Does he expect the weather person on the TV news to talk about the veto instead of the weather? Very silly.

Could you at least try to think clearly?
[Read the article: A hit job on Keith Olbermann]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]O'Reilly is a conservative hack, Olberman is a liberal hack. Sure, since I am a democrat, I like Olberman and hate O'Reilly. I don't let that blind me to the obvious facts. Ms. Walsh, your outrage makes you seem as predictable as O'Reilly.

I love basketball, and I don't undertstand it
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is not a rhetorical question, but an honest one because I do not know: When a team like Detroit is so good that they can do what the did in the second half last night, why and how do they ever let the other team get up 19 in the first place?
Again I emphasize: Not saying they are not that good, because they are. Dumb question, but whatever.

You should watch again
[Read the article: "Sopranos" wrap-up: Uncomfortably numb]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ms. Havrilesky, you had a couple of serious misreads. For one, as it has been pointed out in several letters, Tony was laughing in delirious glee when he fell on his back. The big revelation of his peyote trip is that he does not need to feel remorse, he is finally free from the burden of filial obligation, emotionally.
Also, you talk at some length of his being in denial, but I don't see what he is in denial of. He is quite clearly aware that he killed Christopher. He listens to everyone else's grief and does not locate any within himself. It is possible that the whole point of his taking peyote was to search his soul and plumb the very depths in case there was any grief he was missing; and again, with great relief he finds there is nothing there.

Ouch
[Read the article: Dick Cheney's least favorite TV show?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This article made my Bullshit Sensors ring off the hook.
The sort of strange formula is basically, "I bet (politician I don't like) would not like (TV show I like)"
Let's play:
George Bush's foreign policy positions are at odds with House, MD's commitment to scientific truth.
The predictability of Hilary Clinton's politicking stands in stark contrast to the unpredictable drama of the NBA Playoffs on TNT.
"Veronica Mars" will be taken off the air due to poor ratings, whereas George Bush is still there.
Likewise: "Gilmore Girls" cancelled despite loyal following; "Alberto Gonzales" renewed even though he has only one fan.
"Scrubs" is funny; Dick Cheney is not.

Denver and Atlanta
[Read the article: Ask the pilot]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If you factor in the convenience of an airport in terms of how close it is to the metro area it's intended to service, then you have to consider Denver as pretty lousy, considering it's about 30 minutes from Denver and it sucks in most other departments as well (not a fan of their little subway train which makes insane slot-machine noises every few seconds.
Atlanta bites the big one. It is by necessity huge and sprawling I suppose, but it is also staffed by buffoons and has 1000 places to eat, not 1 of them appetizing.

They were already dishonest, why trust them now?
[Read the article: My new roommate arrived ... with mom attached!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]When the sublettor did not mention that her mother would be moving in with her, she witheld some pretty crucial information. I see no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt in this case; they may be professional rip-off artists.
Even if they are not criminals, they are clearly not their in your best interests and could cause you problems. I had a roommate who let a friend "crash" with us for a couple months... this person was not blatantly malicious or anything. But she had a girlfriend in Europe; and when she left, she left me with $300 in long distance charges on the phone bill that was in my name. It's not as though she was trying to rob me, but she needed a place to stay, and she had some other needs, etc... even if this girl is legit she has already violated your rights in the name of her needs.
