"Jan should be able to get tanked and spread 'em for football teams without the fear of rape, and rape is not a natural consequence of a woman's behaviour. "

I'm truly sorry if you believe this. If Jan has a sincere desire to be gang banged, then yes one way to accomplish this is to get drunk and spread them for a football team. Obviously, if she wants it, she won't be raped. If she's not sure if she wants to have sex (maybe she just wants to fool around?), then putting herself in that situation definitely raises her risk of getting raped. She's not going back to a hotel room with her boyfriend of 8 years. She's going back with complete strangers. That's a risk, no matter what "should" or "should not" be.

You take a similar risk when you choose to jaywalk in the middle of a busy highway. Should you be able to cross a busy highway without being mowed down? I don't think so, but apparently, you do, since according to you, the victim never has any responsibility for the consequences of his/her actions.

  • Yes, the nerve of those self-serving adoptees

"It's interesting that the majority of letters supporting Ms. Hoods article and/or foreign adoptions are by A. people who have adopted or B. adoptees themselves (and on MOTHER'S DAY). That is not exactly an honest or representative group, and it is extremely self-serving."

Yes, the nerve of those self-serving adoptees being grateful for the warm and loving families who took them in from poverty stricken orphanages. Those selfish brown and yellow people! And on MOTHER'S DAY, the holiest day on the Hallmark Calendar! Lock the borders!

I've seen some wackadoodle posts from you Laurel, but this takes the cake!

  • Sorry, this is an american thing

I live in a middle eastern country and yogurt is marketed to men, women and children. Our containers and ads have pictures of super healthy men, women and children enjoying -gah- 3% milkfat yogurt!

Another symptom of American food issues.

  • NYT Section madness

[Read the article: The madwoman in the attic]

The Times is notorious for putting serious issues in its Style section. I've written to Lisa Belkin to ask her why her Life's Work column is in the Style section- it seems too fluffy a venue for the issues she addresses. She actually wrote back and said that she gets more attention there then when it was in the Business section. Go figure.

The Modern Love column is also awesome, and it's there too. FWIW, there is a link to the article on the Health page, but it's all the way at the bottom.

  • Try some research

The Mossad is not part of the Israeli army, just like the CIA is not part of the American army. The army does have its own intelligence units, so the character probably works for one of those, which is why the Mossad is not mentioned.

The Hebrew name "Uri" is spelled with a "U" in English, not with two "o"'s. (Uri Geller ring a bell?) The way you spelled it looks silly.

  • You're late to the party

Alice Munro wrote about this ages ago in her story "The Albanian Virgin" in her book Open Secrets.

[Read the article: Disaster of the day: Too many women rabbis!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The reason why the rabbinate is no place for good Jewish boys is because it doesn't pay as well as law/medicine/finance. No Jewish mother worth her salt wants to see her son struggling to make it nor daughter married to such a guy. The exception to this joke is ultra-Orthodoxy, which is struggling mightily to support thousands of men who learn full time for the rabbinate and don't even plan on working anytime in the near future.

Judy- your comment is breathtaking in its myopia. According to your logic, the Reform leadership should just throw a big V-day party celebrating women's leadership and not care a whit about the lack of men's leadership or even attendance at shul. Men? Bah, who needs them.

Judaism, no matter what flavor, is actually about community, which include men, women, children, the elderly, diasabled, etc. Everyone has needs and they all need attention. It's not all about you.
