Not yet. Were there warrants? Who issued them? Start at the top, not the fools who carried the guns. Go after the people who authorized their use. Talk about a money bomb opportunity.
I hope the Howard Dean and the mainstream press gets on this. Wishful thinking, but it's time has come.
If a market is so tight that a hurricane that may or may not do any damage in the gulf of mexico affects gas prices than it's easily manipulated. If a commodities market is easily manipulated, then speculators, regardless of consequences to others, will manipulate.
We have a market so tight that the gulf, which produces 25% of our measly domestic production which is 25% percent of our overall oil consumption can move markets with a couple of downed or incapacitated rigs. ( By my highly advanced mathematical calculations, a total of one sixteenth of the United States domestic oil consumption is ultimately from the gulf)
If it's that tight, what's the benefit of deregulated trading? Can it compare to the costs associated with the latest speculative debacle? Can't there be better protection from such manipulation? Roughly 6.25% of our oil comes from the Gulf. Maybe with offshore drilling, they could get that all the way up to 7% or even 8%! We'd still be screwed by manipulators. Hey, I'm just sayin'.
If people aren't remembering Iraq and think we're winning, I'd suggest that the Iraqi refugee situation be addressed or at least mentioned. It's like the sub-prime mortgage crisis a year or two ago. Maybe a top administration official can say that it's largely contained.
Two million people (estimated by the UN) fled from the country. I'm grossly under informed, but I don't think they're all staying in the Syrian and Jordanian Hiltons.
How could we be winning if the number of refugees amounts to what would be the fifth largest city in the United States?
What money these people do have will be funneled into 527's and the like in the last month as campaign fund source accountability will be forgotten after the election. These are desperate individuals, many of whom have broken many laws over the last eight years and fear their own accountability if a somewhat normal rule of law is re-established. Buckle down and don't relax because of improving poll numbers.
The McCain / Palin act will be a sordid, ugly affair over the coming weeks. They're not going to start telling the truth or acting ethically anytime soon. That much is obvious. Keep up the great work Glenn.
Why would you give that fellow Ryan a moment of thought or defense? He missed the point, and probably didn't read the whole post, or more likely did read the whole post and is trying to distract you. As one of the few people making the point that there was little to no close scrutiny of the abuses of power over the last eight years, you should see that for what it is.
I think the right is busily setting up their victim excuse and will try to create a vacuum of purported public desire for scrutiny of the Obama administration. Shut out these unproven, undocumented and anonymous calls for attention to details by the press before they gain a foothold in the discourse.
is one thing, but it's my belief that the President-elect is acting under the assumption that the world economy is teetering on a brink of chaotic ruin. This blog has been one of the great sources of exposure of illegal, unethical and literally unbelievable acts of neocon tyranny. Why back off now with a need for proper process by Democrats in the face of the incredibly despicable and not yet finished Bush disaster.
I doubted the campaign several times over the last year +. With the exception of FISA, I was consistently shown that they ultimately knew what they were doing. They got a Black Progressive Democrat elected after all that Nixon, Reagan and the Bushes have done to the world.
I think attention could be and should be focused on what the current President is doing and not what the President-Elect is going to do. That might be the source of frustration in the comments this morning.
Why so much discussion about what the President-elect will do? I think it's lunacy and undermines the overall message of the campaign that won the election. Glenn-please slow this down. Why not focus on the behavior of the current administration. Who knows what the hell those crazy loons are going to be up to for the next two months? Nothing good, I'll guarantee you that much.
The question is not "What would Obama do?", but "What do the right wing nutjobs hope we do?". Ask that and then make sure you're not doing it.
You've been saying this for a while. So what? You certainly weren't the only one who knew this. When Barack Obama was the editor of the Harvard Law Review he picked three conservatives and one liberal as editors. The law review thrived, and everyone, right and left, hailed him as he progressed the review forward through what had been a tumultuous period prior to his leadership. Good for you for letting your readers know for the tenth or so time that you're aware of this.
How about focusing your resources and efforts on Bush and Cheney, as I've said in your comments about ten times. They're up to no good, to put it lightly, busily burrowing Christian soldiers and doing other despicable acts. Please shine your light on their shadowy activities. Perhaps if enough awareness is raised, there will be a chance to actually address a progressive agenda sooner rather than later after all the neoconservative, ideological destruction has been addressed and repaired.
I keep reading posts about irresponsible journalism and it seems that the editors-who are not nameless, are rarely, if ever, brought to task. What about their responsibility?
