Bah
[Read the article: The Al-Haramain ruling and the current Congress]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Finally, as Glenn points out, this constant refrain that 'once he is President' he will set things aright is beginning to sound more cryptic than enlightening.
When in the course of human events ... ya'll have a wonderful 4th of July.
bah.
~(bold)Cocktailhag(bolder) HI. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to pull this dagger that Barack has so deftly slipped in between my back lower ribs. ... and give my gun back. I might need it for squirrels, lobsters or somesuch by the time they get through with us :)

Good one, Bah.
I don't know who BHO thinks he's fooling with his songs and dances over the last week, but it's getting to be disgusting. I don't know what the hell he is thinking, hiring Hillary's former staffers. That'd be the LAST thing I would do, were I the winner of a nomination battle like the debacle we all witnessed over the last eight months. I'd sign up for some rectal surgery before I hired Hillary's people. And I was taking up for the BarackStar, until the last few days.
Anyway... Glenn, great post.

Reality based community, reality based reporting
[Read the article: Beltway myth: "The left-wing base" vs. "the American people" on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Somewhere Rover is laughing.
With help from his pudgy, slime-covered hands, unreality is being substituted for reality in far too much of our political discourse.
As Glenn and others have noted, Mara and many of her media counterparts have taken to simply making shit up rather than report factual information. Positively Joe Kleinian laziness, indeed.

A question for those who might know...
[Read the article: Congress votes to immunize lawbreaking telecoms, legalize warrantless eavesdropping]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Couldn't Feingold, Leahy, Dodd or any senator have put a hold on this bill? Was that a possibility at some point in the last 72 hours?
My high school's website has extensive alumni links and other info on it. Many members of my class seem to have shuffled off to greener pastures. Over the last few years, this trend seems to be intensifying. Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China and other places outside the lower 48.
I'm starting to think my classmates had the right idea.
Glenn, thanks for staying on top of this. This Scott Shane story regarding torture was in Dan Froomkin's column last week. Read it and weep.

Sysprog, thanks for the snark
[Read the article: Congress votes to immunize lawbreaking telecoms, legalize warrantless eavesdropping]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No.
Not just "any senator" can do that.
Who the heck do you think they are - - Tom Coburn?
Only Coburn wears the mysterious amulet that give the wearer the magic power to hold bills against the combined wishes of Majority Leader Reid and President Bush.

Somewhere, Coburn is laughing.
But seriously...
Another post mentioned that the courts might throw out this congressionally mandated Telco immunity. It would be a helluva smack in the face to the gutless and complicit legislators and Dubya if those same five threw this latest FISA and Telco immunity into the unconstitutional circular file.

Justin, Britney and uppity Negroes
[Read the article: Karl Rove's media birds chirp about Obama's "arrogance"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I just read several comments here that mention Ms. Spears.
The mere fact that folks at a political blog are bringing her up is enough to bring up my damn dinner.
Since I don't want to toss my cookies, please don't give her (or Justin Timberlake) any more attention than she already receives. The only woman in the world more overexposed than Britney is Ms. Jolie. I need no further information or speculation regarding these people. I'd rather skinnydip in the Potomac. In January.
As for the ubiquitous and disgusting "presumptuous and arrogant" meme... These media whores are too cowardly to come out and say what they mean. One thing the following three had in common: at least George Wallace, Michael Richards and David Duke were upfront about their predilections and prejudices.

Trolls at Salon.com and bad VP picks
[Read the article: McCain's Palin pick is the epitome of tokenism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There are quite a few trolls at this site. Far too many of them like to post at Glenn Greenwald's UT. Their commentary is cringeworthy: disjointed logic, word for word repetition of R. Limbaugh's talking points and ad hominem attacks abound.
As for Ms. Palin, she reminds me very much (in a visceral way) of J. Danforth Quayle. May the same result as 1992 ensue.

I still have outrage fatigue
[Read the article: Massive police raids on suspected protesters in Minneapolis]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...but yeah, this Gestapo shit is outrageous.
Anyone who isn't angry/outraged over the cops' behavior has severe ADD, or is in a persistent vegetative state.
Glenn, great post. Here's hoping the Minnesota law and order repugs don't round up everyone that Rove and Co. don't like and detain the "anarchist hippies" in the Target Center until Katrina, er, the repug convention is over.

MountainViewer is smoking some strong stuff
[Read the article: How the conservative media duped McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Many people see national political discourse this way: almost any significant event or major decision is as "bad for Democrats" and "good for Republicans". There are no doubt some people who still insist that Michael Brown and the overall nonchalant federal response to Katrina three years ago was "good for Republicans". Certainly, they saw these as bad for Democrats.
I submit this: in a race this close, no one should be overconfident. Especially anyone who remembers the Supreme Court's decision in late 2000, Diebold's touch-screen machines and voter caging. This election is by no means in the bag.
Still, I want to thanks S. Palin for making a few swing voters and independents think twice about McCain.

Amy's show has been growing by leaps and bounds
[Read the article: Scenes from St. Paul -- Democracy Now's Amy Goodman arrested]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...over the last few years. Her last book was a bestseller. She'll run with this (as well she should). The overkill from Fletcher, DHS and the FBI is there for all to see. Moyers will run with this. Tavis Smiley will run with this.
Glenn, thanks for the heads up.

Cheerful, vicious trolls
[Read the article: The GOP's cheerful viciousness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think Arne has a point. It is entirely possible these Rove clones are paid to be here. Other ones of the same ilk certainly have overrun thenation.com and other sites. And these RWAs HATE Eugene Robinson at the Post. Gene gives them a verbal smackdown every so often. Same with Harold Meyerson.
On topic, I take heart from the polls that Palin's perkiness and McCain's windy bluster are not converting non-GOP fans to the Republican camp. Fact free is still fact free, no matter how loudly one rants.
