  • Is this what Ashcroft & Company said they'd resign over, en masse?

[Read the article: Telecom amnesty would forever foreclose investigation of vital issues]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    It certainly sounds like it.

Glenn, great piece. Keep it up.

  • Democrats angry?

    Democrats angry?

    Let me see.

Wiretaps without warrants on millions of Americans.

Thousands of people died in Gulf states while Dubya played the guitar and Michael Brown wondered whether or not to roll up his sleeves.

A bridge collapsed in Minnesota, after being declared dangerous (for 15 years) and in need of replacement, killing 30 people.

High ranking members of this administration who STILL insist that Saddam had WMD.

Scooter (and his boss) outed a covert operative, and Irv got his sentence commuted after being found guilty on four of five counts.

SCHIP was vetoed, because it is 'fiscally irresponsible'.

    Why would Democrats be angry?

  • Bush administration secrecy

[Read the article: What is James Inhofe trying to keep secret?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It seems whatever this administration can label classified information, is being so designated. A few years ago, documents which were already UNCLASSIFIED were reclassified. An example of this is Watergate era recordings and papers. Why does what happened in 1972 need to be classified now? Does someone who used to work in the higher echelons of government 30 years ago, as the author implies about Inhofe, have something to hide?

If these silly people have their way, an innocuous monograph regarding El Nino and its effect on avian migration will be classified.

  • Enough of "the degree is outdated" attempts at snark

[Read the article: In defense of Krugman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Does the date of Krugman's degree make his thesis, the facts he cites, or his conclusion any less valid?

Same old same old. Attack the man, not his argument. A tenth grader who has taken a logic class can do better than that.

Krugman has been right about this administration and its foolish practices and statements. No amount of changing the subject, spurious "fact checks" or ad hominem rhetoric changes that.

Stick to calling Presudent Clinton "Bubba". I figure any neo-con can handle that. Calling names doesn't change the facts. That he beat Bush Sr. And Dole. And Ken Starr and the impeachment attempt.

  • Great column, Juan

[Read the article: The collapse of Bush's foreign policy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm amazed that it took until late 2007 for Bush's foreign policy to collapse. Between Bush, Rove, Cheney, Addington and John Bolton, there isn't one member of the reality based community. All the pragmatists and realists from the administration's foreign policy wing have resigned or been dismissed.

I'm only being somewhat facetious when I write of non-reality based staff. These guys might actually believe the all natural fertilizer they spew. Cheney STILL says that Iraq could have WMDs.

It took this long for reality to begin to set in. It will take much longer to clean up this mess.

  • Military politicking

[Read the article: The growing link between the U.S. military and right-wing media and blogs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Glenn, this is as exasperated a column as I've read of yours.

Having said that, it is reprehensible that Cheney, Dubya and their cronies have to make EVERYTHING political. My outrage fatigue set in a while ago. In 2004, I think.

Michelle Malkin I cannot describe on a web site with moderators and polite company. Keep up the good work, Glenn.

  • Iran attacks (or not)

[Read the article: Chris Floyd for Glenn Greenwald: People get ready -- one shoe away from war with Iran]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Aside from Iraq (a multifacted war involving secular crazy dude Saddam against his Shia-theocracy led neighbor, where crazy dude invaded Iran first), Iran hasn't attacked another country in two centuries.

According to some neo-cons, the Iranian government is GONNA GET US.

Only one problem with this fearmongering: Ahmadinejad will not attack the US. Know why?

    He can't.

The clerics (mullahs) of Iran are in charge of the military, and almost every other significant part of their government. It's a theocracy. So, everyone's least favorite Iranian can only come to Columbia University and get heckled by the oh so courageous stateman Bollinger.

The prime cleric in Iran is Khamanei, and any real decision making in Iran will involve him. Not Ahmadinjad.

  • Kudos to EHJ

    That was a helluva post.

I figure Pachyderm Person and ~~~ have headed back to TheNation.com or HuffingtonPost.com for a while. There seem to be a lot of trolls on those sites these days.

Valerie's book signing is in my neck of the woods tonight. It'll be great to meet her.

  • Bush in San Diego

[Read the article: Why not a phony press secretary, too?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Perino is a poor excuse for a press secretary, and I'll get around to her utter inability to answer a straight question at some point. I just read some of what Bush said in San Diego.

Bush said it makes a big difference when the governor of a state wants to lead during a disaster. Comparing Schwarzenegger to Louisiana's Blanco.

I remember very well the video from New Orleans of people stranded on rooftops in 2005. I remember that Bush showed up four days later for his photo op, making promises of help. Empty promises.

People have lost their homes, possessions, and some even their lives in southern California. In New Orleans, thousands of people died. But the president has time to say something like that.

Disgusted is not an adequate word for how reading Bush's comment makes me feel.

Shut up, Bush. Just shut up.

January of 2009 can't come fast enough.

  • Dana Perino...

[Read the article: FEMA's phony reporters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Activates my gag reflex.
