Has everyone forgotten American Dreamz?
[Read the article: "Idol" watch: Beat-boxing, Bon Jovi and Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Tuesday's video moment with George and Laura was, I believe, the death knell of American Idol's fifteen minutes of fame. The show has always veered between sincerity and self-parody, but by allowing the worst president in the history of this country to come on and congratulate the show for donating money to causes he's too cheap to support himself, it crossed the line and I don't think it can recover.
Does anyone remember "American Dreamz", where Dennis Quaid plays an incompetent, unpopular president who needs to boost his poll numbers? His advisers get him to make an appearance on the show "American Dreamz", with Hugh Grant playing the Simon Cowell figure.
Now, in the real world (as opposed to the world of reality TV), we have Bush on the 3rd anniversary of the disastrous "Mission Accomplished" video moment, aping Dennis Quaid! The president's poll numbers are never going to improve, and his entire administration is going down in a flood of corruption and incompetence. But did AI have to take itself down with him?

Interesting slip
[Read the article: "Georgia Rule"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"None of the movie's three starring actresses respond well to its vice grip." Yes Stephanie, I see what you mean, but the word you want is "vise". Still, nice double entendre.

Good on Fonda
[Read the article: Fondling Stephen Colbert]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I totally agree with Suzy Shedd. It was hilarious to see Colbert get it as hard as he gives it to some of his guests. I mean, if you're going to build a sketch around your fantasies of Jane Fonda you have to assume that she might use that to build her own sketch. It was nice to see him embarrassed and struggling to get through it, and nice to see a guest take his character by surprise. Joan, he's tough. He can take it. Don't get all pitying on us now!
Then again, I really don't get why some women get all hot and steamy for Colbert. I'd take Jon Stewart over him any day.

glad we cleared that up
[Read the article: Joe Lieberman, from his indie perch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, thank you Walter. I now am confident that five years from now I still will not think that Joe Lieberman has a point.

Thanks for your even-handed reporting
[Read the article: Campaign wrap]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am so grateful to you and the rest of Salon's mighty team of writers for painting such a clear picture of the campaign as it unfolds. For the record, here's what this former Edwards supporter has decided.

So true, so true
[Read the article: Undecided '08: Should I vote for Clinton or Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"All I can say with assuredness is this: Whatever move I make, I bet it's going to hurt."
I'm in the same boat, though I had to make the decision with my absentee ballot a week ago, when Edwards was still in the race but I knew he was no longer a contender. I blogged about my decision; you can read it by clicking on my signature.
I just went to a friend's memorial this afternoon, and a woman I have known for years, a die-hard Second Waver, was there with a big Obama button pinned front and center on her bosom. That struck me as rather tasteless.
