no one, absolutely no one here would ever deny a person the right to be a vegetarian/vegan. Hell, this is one of the most pinko-lefty websites going! I'm fairly certain that everyone here is friends with numerous vegetarian/vegans, eats veggie food all the time (my personal fave is Ethiopian), nobody here has a problem with vegetarianism.

What we do have a problem with is when a vegan gets all high and mighty telling everyone how great they are for being vegan and how terrible everyone else is for eating meat.

    got it?

so lay off the whole "everyone is hostile towards me" straw man...kay?

besides, there are so many other, better, more compelling arguments to make as to why vegetarianism is a good thing to do. For example, were you to come to me with arguments about the economic toll overfishing the Grand Banks has had on traditional outpost villages I'd be all ears. Or if you had something to say about the curious spike in dementia in the last 20 years and its links to growth hormones in beef I'd be nodding my head appreciatively. But instead you make your argument that you are morally superior because you hate factory farms and ARE TAKING A STAND. Yawn...

    Traister,

Your descriptions of living with your new beau got me grinning like an idiot for some reason (prolly 'cause I had a pret-ty long dry spell as well, and can totally relate)

    cheers!

[Read the article: Parade shames Gloucester Girls]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

First let me say that this is just plain nuts...really, it's kinda creepy.

But mainly your description of this parade reminded me of all those descriptions I read in university of Renaissance Carnivale. I always had a difficult time imagining what those structured rituals would've looked like (what with the topsy-turvy, world turned on its ear thing going on)...it always seemed really, REALLY remote to me.

Same thing here...your description is just so...absurd, and yet the video looks so...normal.

    creepy.

  • Snubbed Mandela??!

Did he really snub Nelson freakin' Mandela??

Does anyone have the details about this? It's so deliciously obtuse that it's just gotta make you smile.

[Read the article: Learning to live with the "new" Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is some really strange dynamics in the American polity that I just don't understand. What is it with the overwhelming urge to have the Most Perfect Leader? (What is this Renaissance Florence?;).

Reading the reactions to FISA, it's like the netroots is populated by the equivalents of Seventh Graders who were just called fat by their crush in the 9th grade. Honestly, do you have any idea how often I've seen the word "betrayal" in relation to this one vote?

A politician is a politician. Even a well-spoken one. Being "betrayed" by a politician would look more like Benedict Arnold rather than Obama.

Honestly, what is it with the American need to imbue their politicians with God-like qualities? Here's a hint - don't want to feel "betrayed"? Then start looking at your politicians more practically..ease up on the fantasy just a smidge.

    cheers

I think it would also be wise to keep in mind that many of the most vocal oppontents of the "new" Obama are the same people who hated the "old" Obama too...now they just have a new way to say "empty suit".

"After all, if you start messing with the language of the Founders, next thing you know, you've got a constitutional right to privacy, and we can't have that, eh?"

    Hey Ed,

I didn't know you had a little Canuck in ya! It certainly brightens my afternoon when I can come across some quintessentially Canadian phraseology on a favoured Yankee website!

Don't listen to the grumpy-pants brigade (they'd scream on high over an article on the the cuteness of kittens if you gave em the chance)...I also think this is a somewhat silly friday afternoon post to smile about...which is, ya know, okay.

    have a great weekend!

I guess you can put me also into the "holy freaking crap was that an awesome tennis match!!" column. I suspect that there are alot of people like me - they're not so much "tennis" fans as they are "Federer" or "Nadal" fans. I'll watch any matches with either of those guys, but probably won't stick around to watch a whole match between two other players.

I have a few thoughts about that game:

    1) Holy freaking crap was it awesome

    2) How hilariously awkward was the McEnroe/Federer hug?? It was like McEnroe was the drunk maudlin buddy with no concept of personal space.

    3) Honestly, is there a classier athlete in the world than Roger Federer?

    4) Seriously, how cool was Federer's old-school white cardigan?

As for Favre? Well he's starting to alienate one of his biggest fans (me)...Just go gently into that good-night my friend. Or play in Miami. Whichever.

Isn't that how his last game ended already??

If I had my way, political cartoonist would be third against the wall when the revolution comes (right after people with last names for first names and The Dutch ;)

Really, they simply are NEVER funny. Never Ever. Never Never Ever.

as for this political cartoon in question - it's about on par with the satire you'd find in Cracked Magazine (not even Mad...I still loves me my Mad :)...not very funny, pretty juvenile, basically a waste of ink.

    cheers
