I agree. I think the first round should revert to a best of five. Well it should if we were concerned about the overall quality of play in the later rounds (fresher legs and all that. I can't get over how these teams have essentially been playing every other night for two months...it's insane). But I think a legitimate counter-point is just how much money a team rakes in for every playoff home game (the standard number is $1 million/game). For lower tier teams I think the lure of even $1 million extra (assuming they get swept or lose in five) is a very big deal and could be just the thing to convince ownership to field a good team.

(of course you could argue that a best of five gives a better chance for the lower seeds to win in an upset...although I don't recall ever seeing an 8 seed upset a 1 seed in the NBA when they had best of five...)

well clearly I don't really know what I'm talking about...regardless, the pens played admirably. They just had the misfortune of running into one of the finest teams of the last 20 years. Also it was nice to see a Newf hoist the Cup (Cleary)...made me mudder proud ;)

[Read the article: Obama taking over DNC, but Dean will remain chairman]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Does anybody know exactly what the problem Carville has with Dean? I remember him shooting off about how they shoulda won more seats in 2006 and that Dean was to blame but I've never heard anything more substantial as to why Carville hates him.

Is it just a DNC/DLC thing?

There are many many many wonderful things about these Red Wings to appreciate: Zetterberg, Datsyuk (sp?), Lidstrom, Cleary, Osgood, Rafalski, the rebirth of McCarty, etc etc.

Chris Freakin' Chelios however, is not one of them.

I'm not sure what this says about me...but every time I see that smarmy little snot speak I think of Brando's Kurtz saying "exterminate the brute (sic)".

Honestly, does the Democratic Party not have a Party Whip or something similar? (actually I ask that in all earnestness...do either of the parties have Whips to keep the members in line?) Why has he been allowed to actively campaign for the enemy? It's sheer madness! Folly I tells ya, folly!!

    cheers

For those who absolutely, positively will not vote for Obama:

The way I see it, you have only one option - vote for a third party.

Voting McCain is insane. Not voting at all is just stupid (it's quite literally the very least you can do to engage in democracy...which is, if I remember correctly, the reason America looks so highly upon itself). Writing in Clinton's name is foolish, and a waste of time.

So if you can't bring yourself to vote for Obama then please please please vote for a Third Party.

    Might I suggest the Libertarians?

If you actually are going to allow the behavior of a few dozen strangers on the internet influence you into voting against your interests then you really are a complete and abject failure as a human being. You should have your license revoked for lacking any common sense whatsoever and are danger to yourself and others.

    get a grip.

*to be honest I don't think that the majority of the people who are saying this are being honest - they were going to vote McCain all along.

I find it amusing that the current crop of right wing yahoos have spent an exceptional amount of time and energy trying to paint the left as anti-semitic. It's actually kind of hilarious as I'm pretty sure that their parents more likely belonged to "restricted" country clubs than ours.

It rings so absurdly false that I highly doubt that it has any currency whatsoever outside of the right wing echo chamber where they do very little but preach to the converted.

Last week called, it wants its rhetoric back.

enough with the "vetted" crap...can we PLEASE retire that phrase to the dustbin of history??

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

didn't I just see an article linked in the "5 Things" bar saying that women did not overwhelmingly vote for Clinton - that she got just over a majority of them?

"No one expected Clinton to sweep 90% of Democratic women voters, but 60% wouldn't have been an unreasonable accomplishment for the first woman to have a serious chance of winning the presidency. Instead, Clinton won just over a majority of women's votes."

yep...it looks like I did. Doesn't this add a very different dimension to the discussion? Or are we going to run with the whole "Chris Matthews is a scumbag" narrative for a while longer?

If the guy has some issues with credibility...the DTMFA, it's not like he has a winning track record or anything.

there's rrrreallly nothing to see here - other than this story being yet another in the long and curious line of "Obama's problem with _____" stories to grace the pages of Salon.com these last few months.

Honestly dudes, what's up with that? What are ya, Self-Hating Democrats or sumpin'??
