a very simple test
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Want a very simple test to see if male Obama supporters hate Clinton because they're sexist?
Find out if they've voted for women before.
If one can vote for a female senator and not vote for a female presidential candidate, wouldn't it follow that *maybe* the problem lies with the female presidential candidate and not the voter?

honestly,
[Read the article: Kristol plays the Marx card]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]why is this guy still getting paid? Does ANYone consider him to be a credible voice?
oooh! Obama's a Marxist! Please, that's an insult to Marxists everywhere ;)

Hey Joan
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can you explain to me exactly how articles like these are supposed to mend the rift amongst democratic voters? Remind me again why it is helpful to pour gasoline on the fire?
You do realize that you have journalistic responsibility, don't you Joan?
Until now I always thought those who called you out were being silly...but now I'm starting to see their point.
This article is serves no purpose but to further the divide between both camps, and you know it.

@softdog
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for the kudos!
Lord knows I've partaken in my fair share of flame wars these last 3 months...but I'm coming (slowly!) to the realization that they simply are not helping.
cheers

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not so fast...there's still 8 long, long, interminable days until April 22nd. Our collective memories is akin to a fruit fly's, I'm betting something pushes this latest tempest in a teapot out of the news VERY quickly.
cheers

@Virtual Dave
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nothing makes me happier than when I see someone on these message boards bring up McLuhan :)
I think you're spot on, Obama is winning because he personifies "cool" whereas Clinton personifies "hot", and people are more likely to find "cool" appealing
cheers!

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for replying to these messages, we like to think that we're not always yelling in an echo chamber :)
I guess I can see your point (re: the point of your article), but what strikes me is that it, along with all the other "feminist perspective" pieces that Salon has run of late always set up the dichotomy between Obama and Clinton. It's how feminism is impacting/being impacted upon the Clinton campaign in relation to Obama's.
What I would find to be a fascinating article would be one examining how feminists feel about Clinton's campaign. Not in relation to Obama's, but how her campaign is or isn't living up to the ideals you attribute to feminism. Because I gotta tell ya, from the cheap seats over here it doesn't really seem like there's that much about it or her that strikes me as "feminist" (other than, you know, being a woman).
cheers

@Traister - a LATE reply
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for replying to my post! I meant to add that I remember you touching on your own ambivalence in your Super Tuesday piece (one I quite enjoyed btw)...I was just thinking it would be nice to see that topic get the same treatment as this one. I think it would be interesting to examine her campaign as a discrete entity and not in contrast to Obama's. That being said, I do quite enjoy your writing...you sure do write a snappy sentence :)
cheers.

ya know King
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You've actually made me come around to your point of thinking on this issue (leaving school for the majors)...the idea of the student athlete is pretty much bunk, so why not make the money while you can?
I also smell a bit of race-based condescension with this argument only applying to basketball players, after all hockey players in Canada leave home at 15 to play in major junior, get the bare minimum of a high school education then move on to the minors (if drafted) at 18 or 19, but we don't hear much wailing or gnashing of teeth about them and their educations now do we?
But I guess one should also keep in mind that the Beasley situation is by far a minority one. I mean there are what, 60 players from around the world that are drafted? If you're going to declare early eligibility then you better be damn sure you'll be drafted. For every Beasley there's a Carl English (Canadian boy, left Hawai'i early, never got drafted...is now in the D league or Europe, can't recall). I guess if you KNOW you're a sought after talent, then go ahead and declare early...but it's foolish to do so if your getting drafted is a crapshoot - get that free piece of paper instead.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Welcome to our little elite online community and hey, thanks for sharing!
Just in case anybody missed it, here's something else that hglas felt the need to share:
"If Obama looked more like a yard ape than a handsome prince, I doubt he'd have as much young female support. Sorry, but that is the truth"

I think I'm starting to get the point of these pieces
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's not that people dislike Clinton because of her policy positions or her campaigning style that vexes the author, it's the level of dislike that appears to the author to be completely out of whack.
I think she, and others on this board, are saying "yeah, disagree with Clinton all you want for her campaign and her policies...but why do you have to be so NASTY about it?"
and ya know what? they got a point there. (of course, the converse can absolutely be said about the distaste for Obama)
The thing is, I don't know if this is being affected by the boiler-room nature of online message boards. I wouldn't feel all that foolish wagering that out in the "real world" the majority of the electorate isn't quite as visceral (towards either camp)
cheers

how long?
[Read the article: McCain sides with Bush, opposes new GI Bill]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How long will people continue to be duped into believing that the GOP cares about those who serve in the military?
Silly me, I was under the impression that the GI Bill was actually a pretty good thing.
