"Far left? In America? In the 21st century? Let's see: Russ Feingold, maybe, Barney Frank, possibly. Barbara Lee, D Oakland congresswoman, for sure. that's about it. There is no left wing, Walker. You seem to think anyone who's not indistinguishable from a rethug can't win"

sorry for the lateness of this reply but THANK YOU!!! There really is no left wing in America - it's kind of weird really. I'm Canadian (but a bit of a political junkie) and I kept wondering why I found Nader so appealing every time I heard him speak...then it hit me - he talks like a centrist Canadian politician. Man, when your far left, wacko candidate is Nader, then you really can't talk about the left-wing of American politics.

(still love that Obama though...I'm too lazy to look up the polls, but so does the rest of the world. If America wants to restore its international reputation, well you could do alot worse than Mr. Obama)

    cheers!

  • Dock Ellis?

I seem to remember reading that it was the legendary Dock Ellis (he of the "no-hitter on acid" fame) coined the phrase "no-no" and that apparently while he was throwing that infamous no hitter would be talking with his teammates in the dugout saying things like "hey man, I got a no-no going!" and apparently scaring the living bejeebus out of his team mates.

    Love that Dock Ellis...

(does anybody know of any good biographies on him?)

means that this little snafu (which bears a remarkable resemblence to the NAFTA thing) will gain exactly no traction.

oh well, I don't really care about it anyways...Penn's a smarmy prick, and this doesn't change my opinion of him or the Clinton camp in the slightest.

    ho hum.

(now what was this I heard on network news last night about Jimmy Carter pretty much endorsing Obama? What about Murtha saying if Clinton doesn't win the popular vote he'll change his vote? Hmm? *crickets chirping*)

uhhh...Obama would take office in January of 2009. 16 months after January 2009 is May 2010.

So his advisor is saying that instead of May, the troops will be out in December?

Well that tears it...off with his head!

  • what MICKI is really saying

[Read the article: "Richardson has never questioned Senator Obama's electability"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

with all his/her talk about the "gravity" of the Wright flap is that s/he thinks Obama's too black by association. That's the subtext there...s/he can try and gussy it up all s/he wants with the "patriotism" issue, but let's not mince words here...Wright is too black for America and by extension so is Obama.

    Funny thing though:

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/04/03/poll.black.president/index.html

p.s jamartinjr - I've been getting that vibe too, that Clinton supporters really do want to be able to say "I told you so!" come November. It's weird, you'd think that as Progressives they'd do all they could to disprove the notion that the American electorate is so racist that they'll flat out reject a black man (pardon,a "self-identified black man as AKA smith would put it) as president. You'd think they'd be proud to help change the international opinion of the United States of America as a seething cauldron of race tensions. Guess not. I think this is the end game of identity politics...and it's pretty sad actually.

but before that homerun he was the baddest guy around. I read that he once started the season opener for the Pirates against the Reds and promptly hit the first 4 batters...and was tossed out after trying to hit the 5th!

(yeah, this is totally off topic...sorry)

Sorry, I re-read my post and can see how easily it could be interpreted as snark...that wasn't my intention.

    I honestly don't think you're a racist...my humblest apologies.

    cheers

I was JUST about to post the same thing!

So far I count 9 first time pro-clinton posts (and the ALL sound suspiciously similar ;)

so a hearty and healthy howdy to:

    hillarygirl

    4hillary

    apounders

    lisaindecatur

    keelyjazz

    fumiste

    romast

    Adesawa

    dcordes

(i'm sure there's more...but those are the ones i found after I noticed all the unfamiliar names popping up here)

(this article is utter bunk - as has been eloquently noted by many folks smarter than me:)

    cheers

  • something strange is going on...

I've counted 35 post from new posters...roughly half for Obama, half for Clinton. (for some reason the Obama ones tend to be premium members)

Something is rotten here...what are you up to Salon? This is curious to say the least.

I've been a long time reader (back when Allen Barra did your sports column!) but man, if it turns out that you're stoking fires here with fake posters I'll seriously have to think about finding somewhere else to get my lefty news...

  • make that 40..

5 more first timers....what is going on!?!?!?

  • really?

[Read the article: Why Hillary Clinton should be winning]

50+ new posters based on ONE article and we're not supposed to think that there are some shenanigans afoot?

I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday ya know...

    there's only two explanations:

    1) There are people here from both camps posting under different handles (mayhaps at the behest of the actual campaigns?)

    2) Salon is doing it themselves to drive up hits.

    either way, it reeks.

I wasn't aware that this article was linked elsewhere...thanks for the heads up.

It just seemed rather curious that there would be such a huge influx of new posters...i've been reading this site for eons (it seems like) and I've never seen such an influx.

*puts tinfoil hat back in it's drawer*

    cheers
