c'mon wes...
[Read the article: Nagourney: "At least one scenario where Clinton could win"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]you're being obtuse again...your scenario that obama drop out "honorably" would be portrayed as a case of forcing out the black man who got in the way of the rich white lady...and you know it.
If you're happy with losing an entire voting bloc for a generation (or more) then yeah, sure...that uppity Obama should just step aside...but as Emelio "Young Guns" Estevez once said "reap the whirlwind....reap it!"

@jebldmm
[Read the article: Nagourney: "At least one scenario where Clinton could win"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]wow...way to twist my words! What I said was that if, in the highly unlikely scenario WES described, Obama steps aside because it is honorable (in light of the Wright brouhaha) then it would be perceived TERRIBLY by what I'm guessing is a HUGE swath of the Democrat African American voting bloc...I don't think it's a stretch of the imagination to surmise that this bloc would not be rallying behind the donkey anytime soon (think LBJ and losing the south for a generation...only worse)
but hey, if it makes you feel better to paint me as a racist - go right on ahead.
cheers

@Picko
[Read the article: Nagourney: "At least one scenario where Clinton could win"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thank you, that's exactly what I meant...except you put it far more eloquently.
cheers

well that settles it
[Read the article: Raffle craze strikes innocent presidential candidates]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If there ever was any lingering doubt about my support of Obama, it has been laid to rest now that I know that Clinton like Elton freaking John!
(granted, Tiny Dancer was awesome...but jeebus, Elton John?! Gawd! He's terrrrible!)
-
Kucinich?
[Read the article: Raffle craze strikes innocent presidential candidates]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well...if that's how he met his current wife then I should start raffling off dates with me postehaste!

@EMStoveken
[Read the article: Nagourney: "At least one scenario where Clinton could win"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sorry for the delay in my response, yeah...i've been perusing "On The Campaign Trail '72" of late as well...and yeah, the similarities really are striking!
Now I think I should re-read Better than Sex...lord knows he had some...curious...impressions of the Clintons and their staff :)

An open letter to Joan Walsh
[Read the article: The Democrats' anti-momentum]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Dear Joan,
It is my humble opinion that you should hire Tom Payne at the earliest possible convenience. His Hunter Thompson-esque musings would make for the most enjoyable regular column.
Who cares what he will write about - just wind him up and watch him GO!!
(no seriously...no guff. I think it would be AWESOME)
-
actually their work is done for them
[Read the article: The GOP attack plan for Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If (and that's an epic, titanic, "if") Clinton were to secure the nomination, I'm afraid she's dead in the water - and it won't be from any Rpublican Scare Machine smears, distortions or dirty tactics.
All they have to say over and over and over again is this "Clinton will garnish your wages for healthcare, that's right, she'll take your money"
and she'll have no way to retort that...because that's what she said she'll do.
You want to see people desert the Democrats in droves? Simply tell them you'll take their money
-
smarter? not so much
[Read the article: The GOP attack plan for Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]McCain: "My Friends, these are difficult times. Families across America are struggling to make ends meet, I hear their concerns about the economy. The last thing these families need or deserve is to have their wages garnished by Clinton to support her healthcare scheme. Money is tight for many Americans...and I just don't see how taking away MORE of their hard earned money will help them out."
Clinton: *crickets chirping*
-end scene-

@weeping for brunnhilde
[Read the article: The GOP attack plan for Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here](thanks for being one of the few sensible ones around here...it's certainly a breath of fresh air!)
as for Rose Hann...ignore her, she's not a Democrat, you can tell by her rapid fire run down through all the Clinton Talking Points:
1) Wright is racist and hates America
2) Obama is, by extension, also racist and hates America
3) Even if Obama isn't racist or doesn't hate America, he showed his hand that he has no judgement - he stayed in the church! (also note that they assume that EVERY sermon by Wright was like the one we've seen ad infinitum)
4) Hillary's a fighter, HILLARY'S A FIGHTER!!!!!
5) Sexism! SEXISM!!!
Rose is a troll, a freeper plant...you're best served by ignoring her.
cheers

[Read the article: The GOP attack plan for Hillary Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I wholeheartedly agree with your contention re: the two candidates' political ethos or philosophy.
wholeheartedly.
(there's no way I could ever have put it quite as eloquently as you have though :)

Bloomberg? Nah...
[Read the article: Obama-Bloomberg '08?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]But I really wouldn't be surprised to see Wesley Clark as running mate.
If anything it would represent the sharpest dressed ticket in a long time :)
-
WES
[Read the article: Obama-Bloomberg '08?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I love ya man, but you gotta stop playing the One Note Wright Boogie Woogie.
(hint: take a look at the WSJ article linked in the "5 Things" on the right hand side of the homepage)
cheers
-
no wes, you can't...
[Read the article: Obama-Bloomberg '08?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]but it certainly suggests that Wright did not, as you contend, "cripple" Obama...I'd think you'd be happy with this development...
-
@siebecker
[Read the article: Obama-Bloomberg '08?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]yep, I wholeheartedly agree with all three of your points
1) Clark is cool, I was behind him in 2004 (honestly, how many 4 Star Generals who are ALSO Rhodes Scholars AND Democrats are there??) He would be a fantastic choice - would certainly shore up any military soft spots for Obama
2) I totally agree with you about the Wright Flap - It really did allow people who hate him to openly hate him...those who are at least semi-coherent realize that there's nuance to religion.
3) As a Roman Catholic I've been using that exact same argument with my friends about Wright :)
cheers!
