    1) xanthro - it's not that people get their vote to count for more in Texas. It's that the primary vote counts for 2/3rds of your vote and the primary counts for 1/3. You have to complete two portions to have your whole vote count. Are you really saying that it's undemocratic to have an engaged electorate? Really? Because the way I see it is, if voting in the nomination process is that important to you, you take a vacation day, or you switch a shift with someone else, you hire a babysitter for a few hours...in short, you do what you can because democracy is so important for you. It's only indefensible to you because your candidate didn't win, just admit that and you'll be happier, I promise. ;)

    2) sajwan - PLEASE stop throwing around the word "disenfranchisement" That's a SERIOUS allegation, and one that cuts to the very heart of democracy. Not being party to helping in the NOMINATION process sucks, but disenfranchisment it ain't. Sorry, it just isn't. If you want to read about disenfranchisement pick up the latest Harper's there's an excellent article on the DoJ and their drive to weed out "electoral fraud" which is really just code for "disenfranchise democrats"

    thanks

Buck up, we'll be alright, I promise.

I mean come September the economy is going to be so far in the sh*tter that any time the Republicans try and bring up the "scary black pastor" we can say "Are you kidding me?? 200,000 homes were foreclosed on this month alone and we're talking about a PASTOR?!? Instead of trying to scare people, why isn't McCain talking about the economy? We know it isn't his strong point (as he's said numerous times) but we think the American public needs to know how we're going to fix this problem. What they don't need to hear is how Obama's ex-pastor said some crazy things"

remember, Bill Clinton was only able to diffuse the Gennifer Flowers thing because the economy was in the tank...the same thing will work for Obama.

    cheers!

I hear ya sister...thing is, I don't think we'll see a repeat of 2004. I really think that the McCain problem is going to come home to roost - evangelicals don't see him as one of their own...I don't think the Republicans will be able to use McCain to Get Out the Vote like they did in 2000 and 2004.

(of course I could be wrong, but I really don't see them getting overly mobilized for McCain..and without the ground game the Slime Machine isn't nearly as effective...)

    hey, it's just one man's opinion ;)

"You hope those two states are not counted representatively because you believe your affirmative action candidate is entitled to win the Democratic nomination without voters in Michigan and Florida."

and with this little gem we are now free to ignore whatever else spews forth from this cretinous little mind.

    (phew!)

nice work on the histrionics there pal...really? Pointing out the obvious "sickens" you?

Many people don’t have vacation days. They can’t switch shifts or afford a baby sitter. They can barely make ends meet.

are you really trying to tell me that what, 700,000 people in Texas fit into this category? Are you really trying to tell me that Texas is some feudal fiefdom where vacation days aren't allowed? Are you trying to tell me that ALL shift workers in Texas work in such Dickensian circumstances that none of their co-workers will switch shifts with them? Are you really trying to tell me that Texan society is so atomized that hundreds of thousands of people don't know anyone in their neighbourhood who can babysit for two hours?

I don't doubt that some people fit into your category...but I sincerely doubt that EVERYONE who didn't caucus does.

    wow.

your level of obtuseness sickens me!

  • yes it is curious..

I wonder what us "obamaniacs" would do if Hillary won the nomination...hmmm...that IS a toughie.

    *scratches head*

It's a shame the Philip K Dick is dead, I'm sure he'd have some interesting ideas (maybe the I Ching would make an appearance?)...after all that scenario is so absurd that it belongs in the realm of Science Fiction...

    hmmmm...

I'm confused...didn't she say that special interest groups represent Americans?

Oh! I get it...it's time to put on that populist cap for Pennsylvania.

    silly me

that the IOC is really regretting not awarding these games to Toronto right about now...I seem to remember a whole lot of chicanery going down at the selection process.

Not that I really minded my hometown missing out, these things tend to lose gobs of money with very little to show for it (Montreal JUST paid off Olympic Stadium - through a cigarette tax of all things ;)...although it would've been nice to have a rail line to the airport...sigh.

  • c'mon wes

since you seem to be so finely tuned into the pulse of America, and are positive that Wright "crippled" Obama, I wonder...how do you think the African American community would react to your scenario? Do you really think they'd stick with the party that forced the black man to stand aside, even though he was winning and is (arguably) the superior candidate? Can you imagine any scenario wherein the Democrats would ever be able to count on getting the great majority of African Americans to vote for them? Are you really willing to just concede that bloc?

    didn't think so.

(now go back to reading Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail...or is it "Better than Sex" this time around? ;)
