a fairly compelling rebuttal
[Read the article: A sickening truth at Guantánamo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This article offers a fairly compelling rebuttal to those morons who say "if my candidate doesn't win the nomination, I'm voting for McCain!"
Just ask yourself, does this situation reflect the country you want to live in? If not, do you really think McCain will change the situation? Really?
-
Isn't this
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton, sniper fire and Sinbad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Precisely the kind of thing the Republicans would mock mercilessly if she were to get the nomination? I think she'd be better served to drop this line of posturing - it looks silly.

i dunno
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton, sniper fire and Sinbad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree in principal with everyone who is saying to go easy on Clinton over this one...it is a bit silly but so what? It's a minor point in her speech.
But the thing that keeps niggling the back of my mind is just how easy McCain can scoff at this statement and make us look stupid...and I'm tired of those pricks making us look stupid. Essentially Clinton is using a repbulican strategy (I've been in a battle zone!) and using it poorly...why do we insist on fighting by their rules? I mean, at the end of the day who really gives a fck if McCain had the misfortune to get shot down behind enemy lines and was held prisoner for 5(?) years? I mean, it's a pretty great personal story - one to regale the grandkids with sure, but what about being a prisoner prepares one to president?
But Clinton is now feeding into the same storyline with this story...the only difference is that hers is so obviously silly that she looks foolish, and by extension so do we.
sigh...

nope
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton, sniper fire and Sinbad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]she wasn't saying "god damn america"...and neither has Obama. C'mon Wes, do we need a primer on "how to tell who is saying what"? Wright sure said some imflammatory things - good thing he isn't the one running for office isn't it?
-
even if he did
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton, sniper fire and Sinbad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]to paraphrase Gary Coleman: So damn what??
You don't honestly believe that Obama is a secret militant black activist, ready to drop tha muthafcking bomb on whitey do you??
C'mon wes, you're waaaay smarter than that.

anyone else
[Read the article: Daily Kos writers' "strike" gets ugly]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]getting a little annoyed by all of this? Sure in the halcyon days of late January, aarly February it sure was fun to spar on these forums...the rough and tumble give and take of politics sure can be a rush...
but right about now I'm getting a serious case of voter's malaise...man when will Pennsylvania come? I just can't keep my fighting spirits up - I read a post like the one just posted about how Hillary actually leads in electoral votes...and I just can't muster up even the smallest iota of indignation - sure that's the most preposterous thing I've ever heard...but so what? I could explain to that poster just how asinine that metric is, but do you really think they'd listen? hardly. meh....

*smacks head against the desk*
[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]jeebus sonofloud...the reason why there wasn't any talk of his economic stimulus plan in this speech? BECAUSE HE'S BEEN HAMMERED THIS PAST WEEK ABOUT HIS PASTOR'S VIEWS ON RACE, AND NOT HIS ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE!
your obtuseness is actually quite stunning to behold.
-
a gentle suggestion
[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To all the Clinton supporters running off the rails here:
If you're going to stick to the Talking Points with such tenacity - then at least tailor them in some fashion to the events of the day.
cheers.
p.s. I haven't had this kind of reaction to reading a speech since I read "i have nothing to offer but blood toil tears and sweat" (not that I'm saying Obama = Churchill, but both gave me chills...the good kind!)

@bmaggie
[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So everyone in your family has never said an offensive thing ever in their entire lives? Wow. I'm impressed.
The rest of us know that our parents or grandparents or siblings can say terrible things, or hold awful opinions...but that doesn't make us love them any less. You try to correct their assumptions but you don't stand up, point your finger at them and yell "J'Accuse!!!"
cheers

i stand corrected
[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]apparently the new talking points are
1) He's still racist
2) He threw his grandmother under the bus.
3) Still just words.
4) He still loves Israel
5) What about the war on drugs?!
6) He Admitted It! He heard the speeches! HE ADMITTED IT!
the grandmother one is the most odd. His point is pretty obvious, even his grandmother, the woman who helped raise him (ahem...a biracial boy) said hurtful things, ergo we can all say hurtful things. Let's not forget the hurtful past but also let's not be prisoners of it. Let's focus on the good in everyone...like my grandmother, who helped raise me...a biracial boy.
seems pretty clear, stop being so obtuse.

@Jane Minty
[Read the article: Obama's speech on race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]sigh...don't you think that maybe, just maybe, he ran this past his grandmother? Told her "hey gramma, here's my speech I'm going to give. Do you have a problem with that?". Do you really think she didn't know about her being mentioned in this speech? Do you really think he wouldn't predict that this one minor point would be jumped all over by his detractors?
but thanks for obscuring the point with minutiae.
cheers

alas
[Read the article: Murtha endorses Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think she's going to win, and win big in Pennsylvania...how she'll fare in North Carolina? Probably not so well.
and so the horse race keeps chugging along...and so it goes.
p.s. is his name REALLY Mayor Nutter?! That's AWESOME!
-
Mike Nutter
[Read the article: Murtha endorses Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Is the best name I've heard since Furious Styles...except it's even better 'cause it's real!
that made my morning!
cheers!

@SobeOne
[Read the article: Murtha endorses Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]can you do us all a kindness?
can you go take a flying fck at a rolling donut?
Jeebus, stop with the "Obama threw his sweet little granny under a bus! He's secretly as racist as his pastor!" bullshit already. It's bullshit and you know it, just stop it. You're making yourself look dumber by the second.
Your level of obtuseness is almost breathtaking to behold.

an honest question
[Read the article: Hillary Clinton's long strange journey on Iraq]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hey Wes,
You're a big fan of Hunter S Thompson aren't you?
