free advice for Hillary
[Read the article: The Obama photo flap]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hey Hillary,
Wanna know how you should've handled this? You come out and say "You know (cause she's legally required to start every sentence with "you know"), This type of smear campaign is the kind of thing we expect from tabloid right wing media like Mr Drudge over there. We do not condone this type of silliness. Silliness that detracts from the real issues at hand such as x y & z. We need to be discussing THESE issues and not whether or not my candidate looks silly in a hat. Let me be clear, my campaign did not have a hand in circulating this photo, and you can rest assured that if I do find out that someone from my campaign released this without my knowledge, they WILL be fired. Thank You and have a nice day"
now was that so hard??

@AKA Smith
[Read the article: The Obama photo flap]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The problem isn't with the photo per se, but rather the implications that "releasing" it entails. The subtext is clearly that 1) He looks silly and 2) He's wearing a turban, which is a not so subtle way of reminding people that his middle name is Hussein.
There was nothing wrong with the Kerry photo or the Dukakis photo either...but we all know how those played out in the public consciousness don't we?

aka smith
[Read the article: The Obama photo flap]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Ladies and Gentlemen,
After playing the role of nation's headmistress to rave reviews, AKA Smith proudly begins her newest role, the Alfred E. Neuman of political discourse! Watch and be amazed as she takes patently obvious examples of political hatchetry with a shrug of "so what?" The good folks at Salon.com anticipate that Mizz Smith will bring a dedication and eloquence to the role that has been her hallmark ever since her days as Plagiarist Hunter Extraordinaire!
I'm sure you'll all join me in welcoming this exciting new character to the AKA Smith roster.
thank you and goodnight

yep
[Read the article: Is it really time to count Clinton out?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree, let's wait until March 5th before we start calling on anybody to drop out. Hillary has pretty much conceded that March 4th is her Alamo...if she wins big on the 4th it's a whole new ballgame - if not? I'm positive that she'll bow out, and will do so with grace and dignity (but up until the 4th I fear it's gonna get uggggly).
so let's drop the "drop out now for the good of the party"...it comes off pretty smug (why feed into the Clinton image of Obama supporters?)
cheers

Oh Anon...
[Read the article: The Obama photo flap]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It must be tough for you, constantly trotting out new and exotic talking points to tear down a fellow democrat! My personal favourite was "Obama's a Weatherman!". But in your darkest moments, when all seems lost, you know you can always trot out this old chestnut:
"Obama would be a sitting duck for the patriot, McCain"
Play it one more time Sam...

argh
[Read the article: Dems condemn Nader]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Will the Democratic Party never learn?? I just watched Tad Devine on CNN say the strategy to deal with the Nader campaign is to just "ignore it".
Yep, that's the ticket...why bother with trying to appease the protest vote on the left? Much better to ignore them, then blame Nader if things don't work out in November.
That sure worked out in 2000 didn't it?
(man, the dems better hope Nader doesn't get some traction in this election...'cause he's saying alot of things that could resonate with progressives. Things could get sticky come September)

[Read the article: Clinton camp continues Obama photo pushback]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]To be fair, I suspect most of the more testy posts from Obama supporters are in response to the spammers (our favourite anonymous, WES, factcheck2, and the late cythera45). By and large the exchanges with the more level-headed Clinton supporters (like ljwalker) have for the most part been somewhat heated but well within the range of healthy debate (of course there are also more strident obama supporters...like rufus, who I tried to call out a few days back). I can appreciate your concern, but I don't think it's entirely warranted. Take a look at the war room article about whether Clinton should drop out - there's a significant number of Obama supporters (myself included) who think this talk is silly, that we should at least wait until March 4th (as Clinton's campaign have made that their firewall, we should wait until the dust settles there before making any statements about withdrawl).
The most odious though is "anonymous" who hasn't met a tinfoil hat conspiracy he/she didn't like...I think he/she should take alot of the responsibility for the general tone these last few days (did you read his/her spamming over the weekend?? It was bordering on lunacy)
thanks for your time,

Please Salon
[Read the article: Clinton camp continues Obama photo pushback]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can you PLEASE do whatever you can to ban the anonymous poster that's been clogging up the message boards with mean, ugly, and just plain insane ramblings? We all know who he is, the one that keeps insisting that HUSSEIN-Obama is a Rovian trojan horse, that he's in bed with the weathermen (?!?) etc ad nauseum.
Is there ANY way to ban this guy? Do you have to enter your email before posting as anonymous (like you do if you have a pseudonym)? If so, please ban that email address! Keep banning the guy whenever he changes his email address. This has gone on for far too long, he's mainly responsible for the toxic nature of these discussion boards...it's getting to the point where it's affecting salon's reputation.
please, let's be done with this!
sincerely,
