  • My fear

[Read the article: Clinton: "My opponent gives speeches, I offer solutions"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I fear that come 2011 there will alot of disappointed democrats regardless of who wins (and mark my words they WILL win...there is NO way Methuselah McCain will win. The Dems could run an Inanimate Carbon Rod against him and still thump him...regardless of what the "sky-is-falling-crowd" here will lead you to believe.)

If Hillary wins, I fear that she won't be able to, or will be unwilling to, punish the Republicans for their transgressions...and I suspect that a large percentage of her support comes from this desire for retribution after impeachment, Florida 2000, swiftboats, diebold, FISA, Patriot Act, etc etc ad infinitum. Most likely this would occur with the Dems losing races down ticket...we might win this battle but lose the war.

If Obama wins, I fear that he won't be able to unite the moderates into his vision of America...I think that noise machine will sway public opinion back towards an intractable bunker mentality.

I fear that either way - neither candidate will be able to follow through on their promises and 2012 will be a dark year indeed.

(of course this is just a fear...one I fervently hope does come to pass)

uh...the blog you linked to? Well, when it says things like "Obama, whose ears apparently grow larger with each lie he tells" it's kind of hard to take him seriously isn't it?

Based on the vitriolic nature of your comments, I'm beginning to think your handle should be "Sith-era45" :)

Re: Your last post about electibility.

THANK YOU!! I've been thinking for a long time that no matter who the Dems nominate they're going to wipe the floor with McCain. Anyone who says differently is just engaging in fear mongering of the highest order.

One can say that some people will be energized to vote against Hillary, just as you can say some people won't vote for a black man...but it's all a matter of degrees, McCain will not win. He just won't.

So let's go back to having fun debating the relative merits of our candidates...but leave out the "If-you-vote-for-the-other-candidate-you're-really-voting-for-McCain" histrionics please...it just won't happen...and the thing is, I'm pretty sure all of us here know it...regardless of what they say.

Nonono you got it all wrong!

He personally supports (B)illary because he's a moron who has no idea that she CANNOT win the General Election!

And as a superdelegate he supports Obama because he, like his constituents, is a kool-aid drinking lemming who is impressed by empty suits!

did that clear things up for you?

    :D

I think you're absolutely correct. The next month or so is going to prove to be of exceptional value to whomever wins. Hillary because it'll show her how she needs to campaign better. Obama because it'll toughen him up for the oncoming onslaught.

What's the over/under on when Limbaugh mimicks some "jive-talk"?

First, I think this is by far the most ridiculous "attack" yet, such a non-issue that it boggles the mind that we're discussing it (especially as someone earlier commented, Patrick DOESN'T CARE).

But it seems liked a flawed strategy regardless. It seems like all she's doing is confirming what her base already thinks, but I doubt that those who are voting in the upcoming primaries (people who are, by and large, more politically active than the general populous...after all they're VOTING!) probably won't be swayed to her side by this...I suspect primary voters are a bit more astute than that.

However, I think this WILL hurt Obama if he gets the nomination...then this kind of thing could find real traction with the non-politically active...which is a shame when you think about it.

Yep, and he's also beating Clinton. So are we saying that Clinton is equivalent to Keyes now? 'Cause by your logic, that's what is implied.

c'mon man...the more you post here, the more nerd-like you sound!

I so wish you were right...however I have a sneaking suspicion that Hillary will win tonight in Wisconsin, and then all bets are off.

the superdelegate thing seems really easy to me - if you're an elected official, you have to go with the will of your people. If you're a party boss, go with your gut. Which should leave everybody involved just a little pissed off (which of course means it was fair...as someone said earlier)

going for pledged delegates? Dirty Politics my friend, dirty.

    ummm....what??

(and let it be noted by the Clinton supporters that one of the "koolaid drinkers" called out a fellow supporter as not helping things...wonder where our favourite cythera is these days? banned?)

I dunno man, isn't the popular understanding of plagiarism related to the written word (or sheet music)? (I'm thinking of university essays and legal battles over authorship of a song). Obama copied a phrase from a speech, is oratory subject to both charges of plagiarism and copyright now? If we really want to parse this thing Republican-style shouldn't we really blame his speech writer for failing to cite in his/her work? Do speeches generally come with a few pages of end notes? (I ask in all seriousness, I don't know).

I fail to see how somebody using someone else's phrase, when that other person freely gave permission to him, constitutes plagiarism.

back in my high school days we'd call him a poseur...but certainly not an (intellectual) criminal. That's just harsh dude.

To extend the metaphor - Obama using Patrick's phrase with his permission is the same as a d.j sampling another musician's work with permission. It's not plagiarism...he might have to give a portion of royalties to the first artist...but he isn't plagiarising or infringing on any copyright.
