@AKA Smith
[Read the article: Did Hillary Clinton really win in Florida?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]fair enough...I should read a bit more thoroughly. Although to be fair I was pretty clear that I only used your statement as a jumping off point:
"look, I'm actually not picking on you...just using that statement to highlight a broader point - both side's supporters are so busy flinging mud..."
We'll just have to agree to disagree on the negative/positive aspects that Bill "Mediagenic" Clinton is having on his wife's campaign. I think it's a huge advantage...if only because every time some right wing blowhard comes down hard on them she can play the innocent victim of the right wing smear campaign (which prolly has some validity...although I suspect alot more in the General Election than it does now) and garner the votes fueled more by anger at the last 8 years than by looking at the respective policies (although I grant there's precious little difference between the two
cheers
p.s. congrats on the double English! Speaking as someone who also got a "stupid" degree (history) I salute you ;)

question
[Read the article: Obama breaks fundraising record]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Can candidates buy Super Bowl advertising spots? I can't recall ever seeing one, but it seems like you'd get the most leverage in the most watched television event of the year?
Is there a rule against political advertising during the Super Bowl? Didn't MoveOn run a spot a couple of years ago? (the one with the kids working menial jobs)
does anyone know?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]the most odious owner in professional sports? He's certainly up there, if he isn't offering up his team for contraction he's bilking the taxpayers for a brand new stadium, which was supposed to...you know...help the team keep its star players like...you know...Santana.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]any political ads?
I don't get to see the much ballyhooed super bowl advertising (curses on canadian content regulations! curses!). I was thinking that it would've been an IDEAL time to run an ad for Super Tuesday...but I can't remember ever hearing about a political ad running during the super bowl. I seem to recall hearing about a MoveOn spot a few years back, but never a full-on "I am candidate x and I approve this message" type spot.
Are there regulations against those types of ads playing during the Super Bowl? Does anyone know?

hmm

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I take it the ads were kind of bland? Think it might have something to do with the brouhaha over the "gay" chocolate bar ad last year? Which to be fair was exactly the kind of ads you're describing, but still managed to offend/rile up quite a few people. Were the advertising companies just playing it safe this year?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wait, I'm confused now...which is it? 35 years of experience or the anti-establishment candidate?
Which one is it? Methinks it can't be both now can it? Are you conceding the "35 years of experience" line?

basketball rules
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The mind-numbingly boring foul-a-thon at the end of any game is a blight...except in the very rare instances where your team is doing one of those insane finishes where they hit insane 3 pointers, foul, then heave the ball up and hit another one (those are pretty rare though...but exciting in a wtf?! kind of way).
As long as we're talking about End Games though...my vote for the worst is the tedious "run out the clock" in football. Two first downs kills 6 minutes?! (I'm being slightly facetious). It just kills the excitement of a well played game. I know, I know...it's up to the D to make a stop...but still it's just awful. I still think that come the 4th quarter, the clock stops on every play. Think about it...it could be AWESOME.
As for the trade...I'm pretty sure I did a Scooby Doo quizzical head-tilt and grunt when I heard it on the radio. The only thing I can think is that Marion REALLY wanted out and they got the best they could for him (which was MUCH better than the Raptors got for Carter). Still, why couldn't they have made the move for Gasol? Were there extenuating circumstances there?

"This move is one of the most transparent efforts I've ever seen to distract the fans from the product on the field. "See? We've hired a 61-year-old former great player with no executive experience to run the team! We're really trying to turn it around! Now buy our just-raised season tickets!"
yep...bang on. AND he's done it before! Just this season! See Dallas Stars and Brett Hull.
(although to be fair for some reason the Stars started winning after hiring Hull which has deflected most of the deserved criticism)

sure, three words for you Mary. Kay. Letourneau.
misandry is not lurking around each and every corner my friend.
Although I think I agree with the earlier poster d0k0night who suggested a companion advertisement geared towards the girls...

[Read the article: What do young men mean when they say, "Let's hang out"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I think it's entirely possible that when a guy says "let's hang out" he, uh, means "let's hang out". When I was going through some personal crap with family illnesses and stuff, I decided not to date. Still I had numerous attractive female friends that I hung out with solo, drank with to the point of blindness, and never went beyond a goodnight hug and kiss on the cheek. Why? Well hanging out with attractive women is fun. Guys can be a bit more complex than "me want that! Grunt Grunt", platonic dating has it's own charms...however, needless to say once all my personal crap was dealt with i started actually, you know, dating...but my platonic girlfriends are still my friends (except now they seem to like my girlfriend more than me! sigh...)
but LW, if he asks you come over to his place to "watch a movie", he definetely, unequivocally, wants to sleep with you :)
