    1) Okay we get it, Shapiro got the order of the zingers wrong. But as was correctly pointed out earlier, Obama levelled the Walmart charge in his defense of the "You're a filthy Reaganite" charge. Then Hillary had her slumlord comment. Which again, is an odd tactic, considering how a large chunk of the electorate thinks that she and Bill killed a dude (bunk I know, but apparently people believe bunk)

    2) The most telling part of the debate was near the end when the candidates all spoke about their electability. Clinton and Edwards both essentially saying they can beat the Republicans on the electoral map as it currently stands. While Obama said what I think is the (pardon the Henley reference) heart of the matter. He's saying that he can redraw the map. And ya know what? I believe him.

I think essentially what this campaign boils down to are those that long for a return to the good old days (Bill Clinton in the White House - because let's be honest a large portion of those voting for Hillary are really voting for Bill. Not the people here, who are some of the most politically astute people I've come across) and those who long for a radical re-altering of the political map and politics in general. They seem to feel that if Nixon could forge a new Southern Strategy, then Obama can forge a United Strategy. A risky gambit, but one that is worth it (in my humble opinion).

    3) If either Obama or Edwards wins the nomination, the other will be the running mate - I'd bet my non-existent house on it.

    OOH! ZING!!!

    How INCISIVE!!

Ya know, I hadn't thought about it before...but ya know? You might be onto something there...maybe people really do project qualities onto their representative of choice!

Wow. What a NOVEL concept! Whoda Thunk it??

    (sheesh)

besides, I just just as easily say "I LOVE YOU HILLARY!! You are just the BEE'S KNEES!! Your record of service...35 YEARS! 35 YEARS!...PROVES that you are the ONLY one to save us! Only YOU can take on the BIG BAD MEAN Republicans!!

which of course ignores the fact that her biggest "strength" which is all this "experience" really boils down to being the spouse of a politician. Hey, there's nothing wrong with that, but it would be like me saying "Oh yeah...my wife's an EMT...I can perform this emergency tracheotomy likety split." And let's not forget about how she's moved herself slowly and blatantly to the center...abandoning any high minded liberal ideals LONG ago. Remember how she was damn near the only Democrat to publicly demand an apology from Kerry after is stupid "Get set to Iraq" joke? I do...nothing serves as a better indicator of her character than that episode dear cythrea...that she would join in the chorus seeking to pillory Kerry on the eve of the midterm elections...essentially joining ranks with the most odious of the right wing noise machine, solely so she personally wouldn't appear anti-military...that she would sell out her party in that manner, speaks VOLUMES about the content of her character.

(not that any of what I just said matters. Nobody is going to change anyone's mind at this stage in the game...everybody here is already bunkered down, going to ride it out with their candidate til the bitter end)

did Obama hire Rob Riggle as his bodyguard?

seriously, check out his bodyguard, he looks EXACTLY like Riggle! Man, I knew the writer's strike was going to be tough for some, but I didn't realize it would be THAT tough!

    ;)

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]

I'm always fascinated by the intersection of sports and demography (or should I say "class"?). I wasn't aware, but am certainly not surprised, that boxing used to be a significantly jewish sport. It's the same thing with basketball. Both are primarily lower class urban sports, and the jews used be overwhelmingly urban and lower class. As their social position changed, other minorities replaced them in the athletic arena.

All of which kind of makes one rethink their feelings about the athletic abilities we ascribe to the different races, doesn't it?

[Read the article: The dismal state of George W. Bush]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I didn't watch the speech, like someone else I watched "How I Met your Mother"...the belt gag was pretty hilarious if you ask me.

    but two thoughts:

    1) I get the sneaky feeling that Bush actually cares about Immigration Reform and the millions of illegal immigrants within the American borders. If I recall, his plan was surprisingly progressive for him...it just doesn't jive with anything else he's done in the last seven years. I don't get it.

    2) Just as a thought excercise - had the Democrats actually gone and tried to impeach Bush, who do you think it would've helped? Hillary b/c it continues the battle that her and Bill were central to in the 90s? Or Obama with his "let's put all this nastiness behind us" rhetoric? I suspect Hillary would've really benefitted from an impeachment proceeding. Any thoughts?
