[Read the article: Tom the Dancing Bug]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hey Thrasher:
upon a second reading, I now get what you meant...it was more of a critique of my anger at the racist morons (and you saying that you can learn from racist pricks...right?)
I respectfully disagree...but then I grew up in a different cultural climate than the racial pressure-cooker that is the United States...so that prolly colours my perceptions just a smidge ;)
cheers

[Read the article: Tom the Dancing Bug]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]man, we actually are agreeing here you know? What I meant about race obscuring class is that the poor white male in the rural south has ALOT more in common with the poor black male in the urban north, but the rich (white) are way better served by the poor white man thinking he's somehow superior to the poor black man...race is used to obscure commonality, but we can't have the poor 1) realizing they're poor and 2) realizing that there are millions of people just like them now can we?
also - I was trying to offer an outsider's opinion on what I see to be the problem, as such I think I'm qualified to offer it. You're quite right, Canada has had issues with the treatment of Natives, but there are real, concrete institutional changes afoot (or rather were, before we elected our very own rightwing douchebag as Prime Minister..but fret not, he'll be gone shortly), things like Treaty Federalism (creating a whole new order of government) and self-government (being tested right now in Nunavut with the Inuit). Canada is at least trying to ameliorate the situation of our historically disadvantaged peoples (who still are better off than their American counterparts I might mention)

[Read the article: The year in sports]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Saskatchewan Roughriders won their third Grey Cup in their 85 year existence...not an easy feat in a league that has generally 8-10 teams!
My University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team set the Canadian University Football record with 48 losses in a row beating the previous mark of 44 set by their cross-town rivals the York Yeomen.
thanks for the great year King, I'm looking forward to more of your unique insight into this crazy thing called Sport in the coming year.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gold. Pure, unadulterated gold.
happy new year's!

hockey
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yeah, that game was awesome...big fat snowflakes falling from the sky, Lindy Ruff in the old-school letter jacket constantly looking behind him in awe, two beautiful retro jerseys worn, Ty Conklin's awesome helmet for the event, and finally Sidney Crosby scoring in the shootout, the puck kicking up piles of snow as he raced in, and, if you watched it on CBC you heard his hoarse-voiced "YEAH!!" even before the announcers called the goal. It made my new year's.
How about the next one in Ottawa on the Rideau Canal?? I'm sure they could do it - and how awesome would it be to play on actual ice??

re: the troll
[Read the article: Who would Antonin Scalia torture?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Not only is our favourite GI Joe living out in the "sandbox" killing "dirtbags" indiscrimately...but if you read the letters section from the Huckabee article a few days back you'll be interested to know that he also has not one, but TWO graduate degrees in Theology!!
I don't know what's more amazing that someone could find the time to breeze through TWO Graduate degrees (after finishing an undergrad degree I'd assume) and finish up in time to join up and be young enough for active duty, OR that someone with TWO graduate degrees in Theology would spout such crap that is so obviously contrary to anything in the Gospels, or the Letters, or the Epistles...
So which is it Salty? Are you the Jarhead or the Theological PhD??
(neither I suspect)

But, but but...

[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Back to school tomorrow. I teach at a Christian High School and now make less than 30K a year...some capitalist, huh?"
but on Monday you said you were a Professor...which is it?
i'll say it again: Liar.
sure, you can come see me, I'm up in Toronto - but be warned, we don't take too kindly to you armchair commando-types...you're liable to be run out of town on the business end of a hockey stick ;)
(and please don't call me a liberal, that's an insult - I'm a socialist. And as that great Baptist minister Tommy Douglas, the father of public healthcare, once said "As near as I can tell, Socialism is Christianity in practice.")

sorry 'bout that
[Read the article: Who would Antonin Scalia torture?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Sorry for the divergence from topic there, but it's kind of hard to fathom that the United States, that beacon of liberty, equality and justice joined exemplary countries such as:
Bahrain, Bangladesh, Botswana, China, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, North Korea, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mongolia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Uganda, Vietnam, Yemen
in executing people last year.
I mean really, why on earth is this still a debate????
