Hey Anonymous, you from LA?
[Read the article: Selling (out) girls' self-esteem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]'Cause you're certainly a dodger...
my point wasn't about the content of the commercial, but rather the response from people who refuse to acknowledge why some might be offended...don't try and pin any Madonna/Whore crap on me :)

p.s.
[Read the article: Selling (out) girls' self-esteem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I just re-read my original post and realized that I wasn't exactly clear with that point...sorry
cheers

re: Allie
[Read the article: Selling (out) girls' self-esteem]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well thank you for explaining how megacorporations work, no one here ever realized that before...what's this Globalizamation thing agin?
but you know what? Corporations are exceptionally adept at staying "on message"...I mean, I'm sitting here at work, looking at this giant wall mounting outlining my corporation's mission statement, the same one that is in Vancouver, and Montreal, and New York, and Chicago, and every single satellite branch of this whole multinational corporation...the only reason a corporation isn't uniform is when it doesn't behoove them to be.
Howzabout instead of describing how things are, why don't you try and imagine how things should be?
thanks

thanks
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks King for using the right word, genocide.
Naturally it's a point ignored by those who insist there's nothing wrong with blatantly racist caricature...how hard should it be to show a little sensitivity to a people that were damn near (intentionally) wiped off the earth?
GENOCIDE people! C'mon!! Show a little class!
A teacher of mine in high school told me something that has stuck with me ever since:
If you're going to celebrate your nation's exploits, you have to also take responsibility for its transgressions.

a new idea
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]howzabout we change the term from "politically correct" into "classy"?
I defy anyone to charge me as being a "classy" thug.
'cause my old man, before the shuffed this mortal coil, tried to instill in me a sense of common decency. And my friends, there is nothing decent or classy about defending Wahoo...there just isn't.
and for all those pseudo-republican pricks out there i guess I should admit that I'm 1/4 Mi'kmaq on my mom's side, 1/8 Ojibway on my dad's, plus 1/16 Mohawk on his side (try and find an Acadien/Quebecois without native blood...I dare ya ;) and I find Wahoo OFFENSIVE...just get rid of him already...please
END OF STORY.

Joe Buck
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thanks for linking that youtube clip of Buck on Conan. I'm always amazed when I see him being interviewed, he comes across as a really affable guy. Like a really funny buddy, but not too funny.
Which makes his piss-poor announcing all the more confusing, I just don't get it.
Speaking of announcers, for some reason my Canadian feed was picking up an alternate crew (the "international crew" or something? I think Sutcliffe was on it) while the Buffalo Fox feed was the standard crew. I went with the Int'l crew, I can't remember who it was, but someone commented right away on bringing the infield in for Manny, even before he hit it he said it was a dumb move.
anyways, it was kinda nice.

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Great idea about singing This Land is Your Land.
but if only I could hear Dylan sing the last two verses:
In the squares of the city, In the shadow of a steeple;
By the relief office, I'd seen my people.
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking,
Is this land made for you and me?
As I went walking, I saw a sign there;
And on the sign there, it said, 'No Trespassing.'
But on the other side; it didn't say nothing!
That side was made for you and me.
Ya know, the verses them Republicans omit whenever they rape the memory of dear ol' Woody.
as for baseball, I feel for the Rockies, I really do...but it looks like one o' them years where the favourite actually wins (weird, I know)

Bush Lovin' Baseballers
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You wrote: "Look, why all the Schilling hate around here. So he's a Bush Republican. They're almost all Bush Republicans."
that got me thinking, why is it that so many ballplayers are hardcore, Bush lovin' Republicans?
The cynic in me thinks it's probably because:
1) They're gazillionaires (or merely millionaires) and as such, want all them tax breaks they can get and screw the poor.
2) They're athletes...who as a group aren't, shall we say, the sharpest tools in the drawer. Dumb and Rich = Republican Base
3) As athletes they've probably been showered with undue adulation since they were about 10 years old...they all have a HUGE sense of entitlement - just like the rest of the Repubs.
The optimist in me thinks:
1) As athletes they, probably more than anyone else, have to get by on their abilities and talent. Hell, that's ALL they are really, Ability and Talent. As such, they really buy into the whole "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" ethos of the Republican Party.
(I much prefer being a cynic)

That's truly fascinating. It seems true to me, I wonder if anyone has ever studying how much he shades to second to cover up that deficiency?

[Read the article: The evolution of creationism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That this discussion will be free of the words "flying", "spaghetti" and "monster".
Let's try and be nice kids, and always remember that people's beliefs come in VERY different hues.
cheers.

oh man
[Read the article: Mind your manners online]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]you wrote:
"our egalitarian, largely classless and ritualless society..."
Gary, I love ya man, but that might the single most daffy thing I've ever read!
Everything else though is spot on.
cheers.

@ Ken Erfourth
[Read the article: The evolution of creationism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well put, I actually agree with pretty much everything you just wrote.
I just find that whenever evolution and creation get discussed we end up getting reams of posts treating every person who happens to religious in any way as knuckle-dragging, drooling morons...I'm just hoping this discussion avoids that type of stereotype.
A hopeless endeavour I fear.
(well written post btw)
