Can you imagine the job interview that got Howard Kurtz the job in the first place?
What kind of Mad Hatter's Tea Party was that? What does a serious editor say when he looks at his writing samples? What kind of thoughts must that person be having?
This is what I can't understand-- who has made these decisions to let these freaks out in the media in the first place?
Maybe it's the effect of living in an extremely conservative part of the US, but I am just not getting the Hillary support thing. I did not come into this presidential campaign as a huge supporter of anyone, though I did lean toward Edwards, as of all the candidates, he's the only one of the three that has actually taken on the bad guys and won.
Here's a note. A good section of the country really HATES her and Bill. They hate her in a way that defies the imagination-- not a way that liberals hate GWB, either. It is more of an abiding hate than can be rationally explained, of course, but it is related to the fact that they had to sit down and explain to their kids and/or grandkids what a blowjob was for the first time in their life. Regardless of the unfairness of the causality of this circumstance, they feel profoundly, and there is absolutely nothing that can change in that equation.
On a liberal, progressive note, Bill and Hillary as a team sucked. They had a roaring economy, a hugely popular mandate at the beginning, and at the start D control of part of Congress. They did almost NOTHING with it.
To top all this off, Hillary did vote for the War. That makes her immediately complicit in the death of over 650,000 people. By any rational, historic standard, all the people that voted for this war in the House and Senate are murderers. Just because we as a people refuse to hold them up to any scrutiny on this page does not change this reality. No one better than Hillary in the Senate could have known how wrecked the Iraqi military infrastructure was. She was in the White House when they were making the rubble bounce during the extensive bombing of Iraq in the late 1990s. Doesn't anyone remember Desert Fox?
Hillary has also been one of the Democratic candidates that has constantly towed the line with regards to Israel's ostensible rights to do whatever they want to the Palestinians. Once again, there are Reality-Based facts here. Thousands have died, and if she really believes the crapola that comes out of the mouths of the Likud Party in Israel, then how can she ever be trusted?
Regardless of how you feel, the Hillary-Bill affair has been a profound political failure. A failure. If she had been a roofer working on your roof, when the rains came, it would be a downpour in your living room. When one makes such consistent, basic failures, and then tops it off with complicity in the destruction of a civilization, and flavors this with a fundamental ability to speak Truth to Power, even when one is Powerful, they are not suited to be President. She's not the only one, but in a just world, the lot of them would be in jail.
I'm a Obama supporter now. I've actually been growing in my support for him, because he has yet to say anything that is patently false. He also has never supported this War. That's a low standard-- but compared to the rest of them all, who have proven themselves over and over on the world stage to be profound failures, it's a start.
I find it utterly amazing that when it comes to who you pick to put a roof on your house, if they do a bad job, you have no compunction about firing them and getting another person. But when it comes to elites, they're allowed to fail again and again, and people still spout wild crapola about what a success they are. Hillary needs to go down, as well as the rest of the Republicans, and as the recent lack of wrangling over FISA has show, many Ds as well. We are still not even close to having a Reality-Based political discussion in this country, that deals with things the way they are. But hucking the huge losers out the door is a start.
A correction for my letter-- it should read:
and flavors this with a fundamental INability to speak Truth to Power, even when one is Powerful, they are not suited to be President.
instead of:
