Conceeding to Bigotry
[Read the article: Edwards campaign rehires bloggers Marcotte and McEwen]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You simply have to look at who Donohue is in this. Haven't we seen enough of Dems conceeding to the retrograds--even if they could give a damn about them? The man is a proven bigot who minimizes the victimization of children by clerics. How much worse can you get than that?
He's not just a cheap red-neck flak, he's a fraud as a human being. If the bloggers turn out to be turkeys that's another matter. It's to Edward's credit in my book that he rescinded, at least for now. I'm going to start to pay more attention to him.

Not For Public Consumption
[Read the article: Behind the Pillow Angel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is a perfect example of exercising the right to privacy that is necessary to maintain in order to claim this is a civil, safe, and mature society.
It is nobody's business other than this family and those responsible given their positions at the facilities being used.
Whether or not anyone outside that circle has an opinion or not is totally irrelevant other than supporting the families right to make the decision themselves.
To intrude, or even think one has the right to intrude based upon some belief system one may have is a breach of a fundamental right that is necessary to maintain the decency we expect as members of a society that respects the rights of individuals.
We have seen far too many cases in recent years where that right has been challenged, unfortunately under the guise of so called religious convictions, which are a total misrepresentation and degradation of those values.
What is private is private, what is "god's" is "God's", and how I wish to decide over matters of my life and death, and those of my loved ones is mine and "ours"--and not for the collective to decide.
Help keep the mob out of my house, and I'll help keep it out of yours. Those are my terms for agreeing to being a member of this society, and the laws upon which the nation was founded protect it.
It is the same principle at stake in questions involving contraception, abortion, and euthanasia.
Grow up America.

Protecting The Right to Privacy is the Issue
[Read the article: Behind the Pillow Angel]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What amazes me is that the same people who will protest the family's decision, and organize campaigns to shame them, are the same folks who are in favor of wars where thousands of innocents are killed for the oil industry, and say those who protest it are unpatriotic.
I think it's time for liberals to start to fight back against these morons. They have basically been running the country for the last fifty years by default, i.e. decent folks who don't want to live in hypocracy are fed up and don't vote.
I've emailed the letter writer (not a subscriber) who used salon to put out their message of shame that I resent their attempts to intrude upon my right to choose what is best for myself and my family. If their "heart goes out" to the family--why don't they leave them alone?
In my book, they are primitive, arrogant, ignorant and hypocritical--and don't know what they are talking about until it happens to them and they are faced with some similar decision. Meanwhile, don't try to force your agenda down my throat, or those who are currently faced with such a decision.
It is already evident from some of the posts what this family is exposed to by nature of the case being made public, and while I don't think that can or probably should be restricted, I think this reactionary "movement" needs to be fought by those who know better, or they will try to extend their control further in matters that are personal, and need to be protected in a civil society.
I am not sure any other issue makes me more angry, or I think is of greater importance in serving the rights of the individual at this time in this country.
