no more Palin

Stop talking about this distraction and start talking about McCain. The more we yammer on about this-- admittedly more interesting than tired old McCain-- the more free publicity the Republicans get for their disastrous ticket. We need the facts and NARRATIVE on our side, not theirs.

Original article: Is parenthood boring?

she's right

It's pretty funny reading all the outraged mommies strenuously baying about the miracles of childhood. It is boring. It's supposed to be. A parent-- usually a mother-- is a mechanic. You make sure the Ferrari is in tip top form so it can handle any bumps in the road. Then get out of the way when they rev their engines. (How far can I drive this metaphor?) I truly cannot believe that all these women are so invested in owning their offspring's very souls. Let 'em alone! I'll take a book over playing with pipe cleaners anyday. Actually, I would have liked playing with pipecleaners; my daughter would have none of it. She didn't want to do stuff I wanted to do and vice versa and who can blame either of us? That's what other kids (in our case, friends rather than siblings) are for.
