I'm going to leave aside the issue of prostitutes for a moment. I'll just say that to consort with prostitutes is a way of using women as objects.
But this guy also judges his wife by her standards of usefulness to HIM. She gets sick--he uses another woman for sex. Why does he keep his wife around? To take care of him, of course! And in the future he expects her, as a matter of course, to do the difficult and exhausting work of nursing him in his dotage.
This guy is a completely self-centered, disgusting USER. He doesn't deserve to have any woman. He doesn't value them or respect them or relate to them as people. His wife should leave him, AND she should know about the prositutes.
If he is alone and miserable because of his own inability to see women as anything but tools, then maybe that is karma--if so, then good for karma.
And Cary's navel-gazing commentary was useless and self-indulgent. I wouldn't call it "advice". I thought he was doing a little better with sticking to the topic lately.
The last possibility I would mention is that this guy may be miserable because going to prostitutes has become a compulsive, comforting behavior/habit for him, and if he quit "cold turkey"--his own words--he may be feeling the loss of that particular power trip. He needs counseling or he may go right back to using women in this way.
There's better advice in this letters section than Cary offered this week. Mister, get some help. Women are not just out there to make your life comfortable for you. Learn that they are people too, or die alone. Call it karma if you want; I think that's just natural consequences.
When women do housework, dressed in high heels and garters, no less, men don't find it sexy. Men don't like their partners to be subservient.
BUT when men do housework, women find that sexy. Women must like their partners to be subservient.
Jeez, guys, what is this, a custom made post for Brightstar, or what?
The contradictions are glaring, and I think the base assertion is stupid. I start to believe in a femi-nazi agenda when I read this stuff.
Women: housework is not sexy, relax on the couch. Men: housework makes you sexy, get to work.
Fucking dumb.
a visit to a prostitute is about lacy lingerie, respectful conversation, humor, touching...etc.etc.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA HA HA HA HA HA...whee....he he he
good one.
Ohhh yeah, having sex with a complete stranger who will fuck a dozen other guys in the course of the night, in some shitty hotel room, is JUST LIKE this description.
Even sex with expensive call girls who will come to your house for the whole night, which most men can not afford, is by all accounts a sordid, soulless activity.
You guys were on the rape thread excusing and enabling assaults on women. Now this. You are so fucking stupid, it never ceases to amaze me.
Because it's using and exploiting women and treating them as sex objects.
People who opine that they would like to see their daughters doing it, or that it's the equivalent of manual labor, are being deliberate fools. When they have to offer up their own asses to somebody else's dick for money, they might get it.
Glenn, maybe you ought to stick to political commentary. Moralizing clearly isn't your strong suit.
given the incredible number of people on Salon who think there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a woman's body for the purpose of fucking it for an hour, you will have a hard row to hoe convincing anyone that it is wrong to buy a woman's body for nine months, no matter how logical and consistent you are.
As to the adoption of Indian babies, India is one of the top ten countries for international adoptions, so I don't think that poster can be right.
I too think that insisting on raising your biological children, no matter what it costs or who you have to use, is very poor ethics and huge waste of resources.
But for some people, money excuses everything.
Amerigo, Brightstar, and one or two others have basically admitted that they get on these threads to harrass posters because they think that's fighting the gender war, and it's "needed".
What else are they, then, if not trolls? Isn't this the definition of troll?
At least they've dropped the stupid pretense that they're here to "discuss" and "learn something". Now the truth comes out.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
