Men are violent, scary creatures. You cannot expect to not be savaged and raped by them should you be caught in a vulnerable position.

So I have to defend myself by reordering my life around the bestial impulses of men, which men cannot control. Only women can protect themselves by staying away, by never giving them a chance to get women alone or drunk or both. Because who knows what might happen, but it won't be his fault. I agree with what you say, except you have been pushed into the false straw man premise that false accusations of rape (3% or less of reported rapes)are the real problem and not the rape itself(97% or more).

To even engage this stupid argument is to play ball with rape apologists. To hear them talk, you would think that the minute number of cases in which rape accusations are proven to be false means that rape should never be reported at all because (gasp!) innocent men are being victimized everywhere! And we all know that being falsely accused of rape is a much greater life trauma than being raped itself is (How do we know this? Some men say so!). Better that the 97% should shut the hell up than that the 3% should get their day in court.

It's possible to falsely accuse someone of murder or robbery, too, so I guess according to this logic killing or stealing from someone shouldn't be considered a crime.

In fact, hasn't DNA evidence exonerated many death row inmates? And aren't all of them there for murder?

Well, that's it, then--men falsely accused of murder! The conclusion, clearly, is that murder never happens and should not be investigated, right?

False rape accusations, or false accusations of any crime--this is why we have trials and investigations in the first place. Let them perform their function, and stop worrying about casting all women as liars.

But the rape apologists would use these cases to accuse all women of lying and to dismiss their claims of rape out of hand--especially when the numbers start reaching levels that they, personally, find uncomfortable.

The fact that sexual violence is so common that you can't get together with any group of women without hearing about it is a sad, tragic, fact of life but it is a FACT. You can call all women liars or you can deal with it and try to think about what can be done to make life safer for women. That would include not expecting men to be predators, and to reject the predator mentality when it expresses itself on places like this thread.

These men aren't going to pick one position and stick to it because they know perfectly well they don't act like animals around, say, their boss. They may have a biological urge to punch their boss in the nose but they don't do it. But when the subject of raping women comes up--hey, we're all animals! It's BS and they know it, so now we will probably get back to the Booze Haze excuse or whatever. The one thing you are not going to hear is that men are rational humans and can be expected to behave that way.

the "we are animals" argument means that you should learn to live with rape and accept it, because it is a fact of life.
