okay, let's talk practicalities...

for all those who think Ali has a really great point, let's discuss...

she says Islam must be crushed. Not that it shall be left alone to experience an existential crisis, or to collapse from within or any of that other stuff y'all have been writing about.

Islam must be crushed.

How shall we enlightened Westerners go about that?

Shall we kill all Muslims?

Shall we forbid our own people to convert on pain of death? Remember Ali thinks "white people" converting to Islam is a huge issue worthy of some kind of public policy. What should it be?

Should we isolate and limit the mobility of Muslims by keeping them mewed up in their own countries and denying them permission to ever leave? Remember this also limits their exposure to Western education and ideas.

Shall we persecute Muslims, give them a dose of their own medicine and make them pay a discriminatory tax, or otherwise make it costly/uncomfortable to be a Muslim?

What should we do, folks?

Remember we have a government who already does some of these things.

How shall we heed Ali's call to "crush Islam"? I'm open to suggestions.

I think we should just make a clear cut and kill all Muslims outright. A good pogrom would both fix this problem and reduce the world's population for a net beneficial effect. Don't know what the rest of you fags will come up with.

I'll be waiting to hear. Remember George Bush and Blackwater will be there for you when you finally figure it out and need their services.

we're back to square one

Everything that was wrong with the very first installment is wrong with this one, too--the font changes, the disjointedness, the bad drawing, the snobby East Coast references (lobster, this time....yawn). Okay, no photocopying this time, but who cares? The drawings are infantile anyway. They might as well be photocopied as not.

We thought they were learning, listening to us, but they weren't. It was all just a cruel tease. Now the truth comes out...

These guys play rough.

I really do think now that Salon is doing this on purpose. This new strip could not possibly be this bad unless they were deliberately yanking our collective chains. Is anybody with me on this?

Anonymous...

Islam IS misogynistic by its nature. Read the Q'uran, the Sunnah, and the Hadith. The Bible is pretty nasty towards women, but this is even worse.

Granted, the writers of Broadsheet tend to get a wee bit confused about this issue from time to time, because cheering for Islam and Muslims is supposed to be a liberal, cool, anti-colonial, anti-Bush, pro-Palestinian thing to do. But then you run flat up against the blatant and very real discrimination against women, and there you are, with weekly roundups like this one.

Muslimgirlpower, thanks for the link. Personally, I think the legal realities of life in Saudi should suffice to prevent any sane woman from ever living there. The editorializing probably is largely true, but doesn't help (every girl in love with an Arab thinking to herself, "Oh, but he would never do that to me....we're special"..etc.).

Can't leave the country with hubbi's written permission? God what a completely nasty, vile place. The asshole of the planet, it must be.

Perhaps ironically,

but maybe not, Iranian author Sartrapi, featured here on Broadsheet for her "goose anus" statement about augmented Western lips, wrote in her "Persepolis" graphic novel about this very procedure being done in Iran...leading a female character to state, after her butt-fat-to-breast job, "so when my husband is kissing my breasts, he doesn't know that he's really kissing my ass".

If this works, I'm sure it will become popular, all joking aside. And I'm sure it will be painful and humiliating and leave scars and side effects. I just wish so much that keeping the eyes of men fixed on us wasn't so damned all-important to the female existence.
