was very disappointing considering what a major airport it is. It is said they are upgrading it.
Paramaribo's airport in Suriname sounds like a mini version of what you describe. Absolutely frightful, people harrassing, everything of mine was sorted through and some stolen, AND it's at least 40 km. away from the town and no taxis. I had to hitch a ride in.
Paramaribo is on my short list for World's Worst.
This is absolutely typical of the apologetic "Islamic feminist" attitude of the so called "progressive" Muslim women in Texas when I was involved in the masajid many moons ago. Glad to see that people are catching on...."Islamic feminism" is an oxymoron.
The other way to see this is to start talking about polygamy. That opens another whole can of lovely worms.
The baby steps argument is kind of stupid in the internet age, when we all have access to the same information resources.
Read the article and you will see the message, that it's all about the husband. The woman's pleasure is important only insofar as it will keep her from straying from the man, and it will make her a better wife for him. It has nothing to do with her! Typically Islamic attitude...if you can't find happiness in the kitchen with a baby on the hip, then something is wrong with YOU and you had better adjust yourself. Of course that's the conservative attitude generally but Muslims have it 110% more than any other people. It's all such garbage.
I remember a "lady" in cute pink chelwar kameez who, when confronted with the notion that women were inferior to men in Islam (in the context of Tehmina Durrani's book), chirped brightly "no one can make you feel inferior without your permission"! A quote from somewhere, and a lovely way to blame the victim. She was one of the lucky ones who maybe wasn't beaten first by her parents and then her husband, both of which are allowed in the Q'uran. I can guarantee that it is possible to make a woman feel her inferiority in the system without her permission! But no, we must ignore that, and pretend that it's all a question of a sunny attitude....darn it, an abused woman just isn't happy enough with her lot!
The only thing that really bugs me is that I ever gave that sh** five minutes of my precious time. God, that was a waste!
is an elegant, lovely, and flattering garment most of the time. Some of the more extreme permutations the self appointed fashionistas of the posh set have put it through, however....! But that's off the topic (besides the fact that it is possible to imagine all that time and creativity and energy which housewives expend on designing and having clothes tailored going to nobler causes).
It was the comment that got my goat, as we say. And Khar deserved everything he got, I believe....and Durrani has shown a lot of class by using her position to take up the cause of abused women. She could have just moved to the U.S. and got a job in a conservative think tank, a la Hirsi Ali.
Sorry I did not mean any offense! But the worst offenders against women always seem to be other women, even educated ones who ought to know better...sometimes especially them.
