Real?

Googling around a bit turns up a number of these "books". Many of them are actually fan fiction, printed and bound to look like the real book. I haven't been able to ascertain if this particular one is real or not, but based on the number of fakes, odds are it's just another convincing piece of fan fiction.

Original article: A rocket-powered bionic arm

Blogging about Slashdot and Wired?

The Machinist is starting to get annoying.

Every article on the main page except the Sony article is a summary of either a Slashdot thread or Wired blog post (and it looks like the Sony one is a Gizmodo summary). Most of them appear the same day as the "originals", delayed by just enough time to summarize the main points made by the first few posters. Slashdot and Wired Blogs are aggregators and discussion sites, so what appear to be Machinist sources aren't even good primary sources, just ranting geeks.

I expect a little more from Salon. I already read Slashdot and Wired for commentary and had hoped that Salon's tech column would provide unique perspective on the topics, not just rehash discussions from other forums.

What has journalism come to when a national publication's tech column is just a summary of other people's blogs?
