  • You know what? I don't care...

[Read the article: I saw John Edwards in the shampoo aisle]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't care how much John Edwards spends on his hair. I don't care that Mitt Romney is a Mormon. I don't care that Bill Clinton had cigar sex with an intern. I don't care that George H. W. Bush didn't know how much a gallon of milk costs. I DO CARE that the reputation of the American nation is in the toilet because instead of being seen as a shining light of liberty and freedom and civil rights, this country is now seen worldwide, rightly or wrongly, as a supporter of torture and defender of business interests alone. I do care that the children of this nation know all about Sanjaya and "American Idol," but fail basic civics lessons. I do care that we live in a nation where the president seriously believes that the American people are sacrificing "peace of mind when they see the terrible images of violence on TV every night" and gets away with saying it! I care about the fact that most American citizens can't be roused enough to become active participants in their own political system, which really is an amazing thing, even with all its flaws. With all due respect to the troops, they are not the only ones who keep this democracy alive, it's every single one of us educating ourselves about the issues and then getting our butts into the voting booth. That means, you don't need to care about John Edwards' hair. You do need to care about his position on the issues that are important to you. And Obama's, and Clinton's, and McCain's, and whoever the hell else is out there running for office. God forbid we get another president that people voted for because he's the one they'd rather drink beer with!

  • I still haven't forgiven Tim Burton...

[Read the article: Beyond the Multiplex: Did a movie ruin your favorite book?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...for ruining the film version of "James and the Giant Peach." It's a Roald Dahl story for gosh sakes, I sure don't think Tim Burton, with all his talent, improved on the original by changing it up. I read this book as a child and have loved it and shared it with my own children. I was so excited when I heard that Burton was taking it on and would bring the story to a wider audience - finally, a film maker with a dark sensibility to match Dahl's! I was so disappointed by the outcome and not at all surprised when Burton decided that he also needed to mess with "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." I know of mediocre books that have been turned into excellent movies, but when the story is already so good, why mess around with it?

  • Testy? Who cares?

[Read the article: Is Obama getting "testy"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why is getting "testy" such a bad thing? I don't expect these politicians to be emotionless automatons. I still don't understand why everyone made such a big deal out of the Howard Dean war whoop four years ago. Sheesh people, don't we have better things to talk about? If you want a mindless robot, then let's just keep Dubya.

  • Why is Obama the enemy all of a sudden?

[Read the article: Hillary Clinton's Texas-size moment ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are some of us who have decided to support Obama because we think he has a better chance of beating McCain in November than Hillary Clinton does. Obama is clearly an intelligent individual and, if elected president, would probably govern very capably. It's not like we have to choose between the dumb jock quarterback and the valedictorian. It's more like we have a choice between the valedictorian and the president of the National Honor Society. Why are people so antagonistic and bent on making Obama supporters out to be mindless dolts?

  • @Persia - Laugh of the day

[Read the article: Hillary Clinton's Texas-size moment ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    "Laugh of the day.

To me he's the enemy for insisting on running for President before he obviously was ready or qualified to and for splitting Dem voters right in half with this (tired) theme of pandering to the lefties and factioning them off.

How dare he run for President in an open primary! He should have conceded immediately to The Anointed One."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And HOW DARE people actually vote for him! What's with this "democracy" crap? Didn't they get the memo?

  • I'm more incensed...

[Read the article: They "might as well call themselves Slutbucks"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...about that new dreck they are pushing, "Pike Place Blend." I don't care what the cup looks like, just what's in it. I do remember a few years back, they changed their logo to eliminate the mermaid's belly button; I heard it was because some groups were saying it was too erotic.
