The favorite
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]is NOT UNC. UCLA began this thing as the 7-2 favorite, with UNC and Kansas at 9-2.
This week, all 3 were at 3-1, at least on sportsbook.com (I have not been to Vegas this week so I don't know what is going on there).
UNC may be "the favorite" per the NCAA seeds, but the whole concept of "favorite" comes from the gamblers, and according to the gamblers UNC to win it all would be a mild upset.
At least if you start at the beginning.
As of today, they would be considered a co-favorite. But no matter how you look at it not THE favorite.
Of course, you know what they say about gamblers - show me a gambler that claims to make a living from gambling and I'll show you a man that lives in the park 6 months out of the year.
Just trying to help your credibility with the sporting readers, King...

I hate the republicans
[Read the article: Americans in Green Zone under siege]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]so much. This is their fault, they should be the ones over there fighting and dying. To this day they refuse to accept the responsibility for what they have done to Iraq and the Iraqi people.
If there is a god, I pray for forgiveness for my own small part in this tragedy. And if there is a hell, I pray that everyone who voted for Bush ends up there.

This has all the makings
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]of the best final four ever.
Of the four, UCLA and Memphis looked best, UNC would not be denied, but still had problems with Louisville, and Kansas got lucky when Curry passed up the final shot. I have no doubt he would have nailed it...
Right now on Sportsbook.com UNC is 8-5, all the rest are 3-1. I think the public is wrong on this one, I make all 4 at 5-2.
By the way, unc70, in my experience, the only way to lose money faster than taking longshots is to take favorites.
I think Kevin Love and Ben Howland will prove to be the difference, but I would not be surprised at all to see any one of these teams go all the way.
I can't wait until Saturday...

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]FOX would LOVE to get out of their MLB contract, since they way overpaid, but unfortunately they are locked in I think until 2011, and I can't imagine MLB giving back any money to switch networks, so we are stuck until then...

Draft Day
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Since the Super Bowl began, only 3 quarterbacks taken with the number one overall pick have won it for the team that picked them:
Terry Bradshaw
Troy Aikman
Peyton Manning
Several other number ones have won a Super Bowl with a different team, however I suspect that is cold comfort to the teams that originally drafted them (Eli Manning being the most recent, I wonder how the Chargers feel about Philip Rivers now?).
Moral of the story? Trade down, or take a kicker and save the money for free agents...

SI Vault
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I noticed they made a snide remark about Trent Dilfer. I am not going to defend his overall performance, but he did win a Super Bowl. Which in my book makes him better than say Dan Marino or Jim Kelly or any other QB that never won the SB. After all the only point to Pro Sports is to win the title.

QBs
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I guess it's a pretty inexact science, for instance I though Cade McNown was a can't miss, but still I would never take one in the first round. And how many QBs and fans would take a Trent Dilfer career (or Mark Rypien or Doug Williams for that matter) and the single SB win over say Donavon McNabb or Dan Marino? Every one is my guess. Come to think of it didn't Favre have just the one win as well?

The Super Bowl is the only thing that counts
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No one cares about the Pro Bowl, so making All Pro should not be part of the equation. Also no one cares about other than overall number one, so let's take that off the table too.
The only question on the table should be, has the overall number one contributed in any significant way to a Super Bowl win, for the team that drafted him number one? Clearly you could say that about Orlando Pace. Peyton Manning and Troy Aikman. Too Tall Jones. Terry Bradshaw and Bubba Smith. Possibly Russell Maryland.
And that's it for the Super Bowl era. SO 3 quarterbacks, 1 O Line and 2 D Line, one possible D Line.
Gee I guess the answer is take a QB after all...

The Big Guys protecting Aikman and Manning
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, but none of them were selected with the overall number one, which is what I am referring to. I definitely agree that every member of the team contributes, but if you are paying a gazillion dollars for the overall number one, you expect that person to win you a Super Bowl. At least that's what I would expect were I the guy signing the check.
Zach if you can find another overall number one that won the Super Bowl in the last 41 years, please do so. If not keep your insults to yourself.
