The gamblers
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]are screwed in this scenario. Once the game becomes official, all bets are paid off and the transaction is complete. There is no mechanism by which a losing ticket then could be paid now. This is because the casinos and the NBA have no relationship other than parasite/host (I will leave it to you to decide which is which, personally if I don't gamble on a game I could care less who wins but that's just me) However the casinos could at their discretion post a number on the new final 51 seconds. I make it Heat minus 3.
On the same note, allow me to complain about IR in general. I guess the day is coming where everything will be officiated by a computer, but I don't like it. I like the human element, blown calls, tuck rule, snowplow, stealing signals, all of it. If a team can reasonably be found to be at fault, or to have intentionally cheated, make them forfeit the game. Otherwise live with it.

talk about irony
[Read the article: Michigan, Florida governors want delegates seated]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]MI and FL wanted to have a greater voice in the process and so, cut in line, got caught, and got sent to detention.
Had they waited, they would have had an even greater voice than if their primaries had counted in the first place.

Hear hear
[Read the article: Democrats' November dreaming]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]McAlister, a 60 seat majority is NOT necessary. The republicans have never had it, and they have never needed it. Besides which, it's very unlikely that the Democrats will get either that or the veto proof majority in the House. We need Reid and Pelosi to take off the kid gloves and start fighting for every inch they can get. If that means they lose the Blue Dogs, let 'em go. I doubt they will last long in the GOP.
Anyway could you imagine if any of them old coots actually had to filibuster? They'd have to get porta potties brought to the floor of the Senate, also nice feather beds and blankies. They wouldn't last 48 hours...

double down
[Read the article: John McCain runs for George Bush's third term]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Just for the record, a gambler "doubles down" when he has a clear advantage over the house. He goes "double or nothing" in desperation to get back to even, which is I think the term meant to be used here. Whatever else we can accuse McBushCain of, "doubling down" is not the strategy he uses, and we are seeing that ever more clearly with each passing day.

I don't get it
[Read the article: New York Gov. Spitzer resigns]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]John McCain cheated on his wife, after she became disabled in a car accident, with a mistress, which is far worse because it involves emotional as well as physical cheating, and no one so much as mentions it.
Spitzer should have stayed. But I guess since he's a Democrat he at least has some sense of right and wrong.

[Read the article: New York Gov. Spitzer resigns]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Salon:
Why do you allow this kind of vindictive gloating? If you are not going to remove this claptrap at least give us the option to ignore certain posters. There is not one thing this individual brings to the table, other than childish taunts. Clearly this is a paid provocateur...

I have been
[Read the article: The crash in Republican economics ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]predicting this since Dec 12, 2000, and I both love and hate being right at the same time. I love it because it means just maybe the Republicans will be routed to about 30 percent in the next election, if the Democrats have even one tenth of the sense god gave a hammer. I hate it because I will be paying $5 or $6 for a gallon of gas before it's all over...
By the way ElephantDouche? Nya na na na na...

Instant Replay
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]doesn't work, because you are trying to discern what happened in a three dimensional world from a two dimensional picture of the world, run through a phalanx of transistors and resistors and capacitors and transformers and wires and even sometimes through the air before you get to see it. Who is to say if the camera focused on the clock isn't ahead of or behind the camera focused on the basket? They can vary by as much as half a second.
As to officiating, the refs in a basketball game could call a foul on every play if they so choose, if not at the ball, then away from the ball. It's a physical game. Therefore if the refs call a foul, it's a foul, and if they don't, it's not.
We're human beings, not machines, and I for one have no desire to either be a machine or have one tell me what is real and what isn't...
