Abu Ghraib photos

I don't believe Americans are unable to "sort out the meaning for themselves" without the help of big brother Salon, and as Americans we deserve more respect from you. You should put all the pictures and videos up now. They are going to come out sooner or later anyway, and the sooner they see the light the sooner we can rid ourselves of the metastasizing cancer that calls itself "bush." I belive Salon has abdicated its particular responsibility to its format. You are neither a network nor a nespaper, and are not controlled by one of the major media conglomerates. As a premium subscriber, I expect Salon to transcend the MSM and utilize the internet as it was intneded, to bypass censorship and even good judgement (which is by necessity subjective) and let the internet user make up his own mind.

Bushwah

I think it was Ben Franklin that said, the more they proclaimed their innocence, the faster we hid our silverware. These guys are all liars and crooks, the republicans exponentially more so than the democrats, and we'll be lucky to recover from this wholesale theft of the treasury in our lifetimes. I am sure some in congress are innocent of theft, perhaps even noble in their aspirations, but the fact is if they don't stand up every day and try to stop this robbery, the outcome is the same and their personal integrity makes not a whit of difference.

DP World

I can understand why people want to argue that it's a "second rate conspiracy theory" that bush would want this deal because he is in bed with a bunch of middle eastern princes, but the fact is this nightmare started in the 1950's when Kuwait paid bush senior a few million, thus resurrecting the family fortune. Everything the bushes have done since flows from that deal, so it's really not so farfetched that george junior would fight so hard for this deal, just on principle of he who scratched my back gets scratched back when the opportunity arises. Watch "The Godfather" parts one and two and you will see how these guys operate. It seems to me, however, if any government should be allowed to manage our ports, it should be ours, not a foreign one and especially not one owned by a bunch of ne'er do well kings and princes.

forget the two-year-old

How about a 20-year-old? Or a 40-year-old? It's a relevant question, the protestations of a "trick question scenario" notwithstanding.

supreme credibility

It is impossible to "compromise the credibility" of the supreme court, because it has none. The court lost all credibility with Bush v. Gore, and has done nothing since to restore even a shred of credibility or dignity for that matter. Also, exactly what makes Stephen Gillers a "legal ethics expert?" Since the legal profession has no ethics, I see no reason why we need any experts on the subject.

Press room

Here's the thing, as long as "reporters" keep showing up for this daily charade, they look like chumps. If they really wanted to make a statement about how badly they are treated, they would stop going over there and allowing this administration to humiliate them, day in and day out. At least for now, the white house press room has become the propaganda organ of the party in power, and any self-respecting newsgathering organization should leave it to the Jeff Guckert-Gannons of the world.

CIA spin

The spin on the CIA is that somehow the agency was responsible for "bad intelligence." Even War Room has taken the bait. The truth is the CIA did a great job, they had plenty of evidence that contradicted the assertions (lies, really) that the Cheney administration used to justify the invasion and occupation of Iraq. The career officers at the CIA tried mightily to stop the political interference, spearheaded by President, excuse me, Vice President Cheney, but were unable to stand against the machinations of the republican party. Delusional lunatics are in charge of the whole operation, and it is they and they alone who must be held accountable for the oceans of blood they have spilled. I hope to Christ there will still be some honest people left at the CIA when this is all over...

Press or stenography

If these people had any backbone at all, they'd stop showing up for these things, and instead go out and try and actually report news. And I include Helen Thomas in that assessment.

Gore vs. Rove

The Al Gore "scoop" is hardly on the same level as the Rove scoop...even if true, which apparently it is not. The Rove story is yet to be played out, and Mr. Leopold has yet to proved wrong. To present both as somehow equal in import smacks of conservative media bias.

Afraid

Too afraid to question the president? On the Whitehouse beat!?! How in the world this person ever got to any position of responsibility at the Times is beyond me, but then, we live in a world that pays the salaries of Brownie and Rumsfeld and Bush, so no amount of incompetence at any level should suprise me any more I guess.

Too little, too late

All the journalists, indeed all the voters, that supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003 should be drafted and sent over there now. It's their war, they should fight it.
