Original article: "Trust Us" Government

You do realize this all has the appearance of an arms race

The squabbling of the laws is only about the level of technical proficiency that's already been superceded. Once we settle these legal issues, the 'sentinels' will have already moved on to something more powerful for which there continues to be no laws, and so on. And then the law leapfrogs over that, then the technology changes etc etc etc.

I assume these things:

There is no privacy

There is already a compendium of information about me

There is a similar compendium on everyone else

venal sins are venal

No one has the bandwidth to mount any interest in venality

There is a given and growing level of noise in the system

Every data point has flaws

Everyone's data points have flaws

The known accuracy of the loss of our privacy is far less than 100%

The number of 'recipients' and users and that info who understand the statement directly above is small but growing

Soon the reliability of all information will be suspect

Suspect data are unusable

The system never fails it just screws up ever more

Noise and error are eventually protections on their own

Original article: We're failing our kids

then I insist that everyone be the guinea pig

I for one am tired of being told to be the pilot program, the fix, the experiment, the project. Because when it's just me, the people who do control the schools don't have a lot of skin in the game. They are not enlightened altruists, they are bureaucrats.

NCLB is a joke. It's turned teachers into proctors. Proctors who hand out assignments and sit and watch kids take standardized tests. We don't need that kind of teacher, that kind of teach can be replaced by a robot or a website.

So when they hand out vouchers, sign me up.

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 09:19 AM

Well that's it then

Officially not a single Dem candidate gives a shit about anything domestic.

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 10:36 AM

GOP will of course tell you the remedy is to cut taxes

And then wave their hands mumbo jumboing about all that other nonsense like trade, currency and debt.

Dems will of course tell you the remedy is do something else. What, we haven't heard yet but it's something.

PS when the Fed cuts rates again today it will officially make zero sense for Americans to save. Why should they when their return is 0.5% is current rates and -3.0% in real rates.

Some Beauty Contest

Hillary

Obama

McCain

Romney

Huckabee

Ugh

Wednesday, January 30, 2008 11:16 AM

Well there goes that election

We have have zero non insane candidates that actually said something of use about domestic issues. Now whether it's Obama or Hillary the election will be about who's official minorityhood is better qualified to give them the election by default.

Maybe AT&T is just full of shit

It could be that AT&T just doesn't know how many iPhones they have. It's not as if the AT&T/Cingular/XYZ company agglomeration is really good at capturing information that's not relevant to their billing cycle. As a non-Cingular cell phone customer I can tell you my carrier ALWAYS has errors in their data, ALWAYS has errors on their bill, and ALWAYS has incorrect information about my account up on their website. If I asked my carrier which phones I owned, how long I owned them and when they were activated, they'd get it maybe 60% correct.

AT&T is THE fat dumb bovine company of the world. Unless it has something to do with their bill to you, or legislation and tariffs, they don't know and don't care.

considering that none of the candidates is talking about the economy

It probably has little bearing. You're the zealots who insisted on turning this election into all Iraq all the time. Moreover none of the candidates has anything approaching an informed opinion over what the do. The GOP has one answer for everything: cut taxes. The Dems make populist noises about how being employed is a good thing.

Thursday, January 31, 2008 05:42 AM

I'm reasonably sure at this point the media has decided that the GOP must win

There's no other explanation why they fawn over this gaggle of retards called the GOP candidates straight out of central casting.

At least Edwards has a real job to go back to, the Poverty Center he created at UNC. For the rest of them, they just morph into lobbyists, preachers, pundits and other forms of bacterial scum.

All along I've said that Bush is not the danger. The real danger is that he truly does represent us.

Fox is like any blog

All Op-Ed and half assed opinions parading as fact. But it's mostly bullshit because bullshit is what people want to hear.

And yet Salon continues to embrace one losing candidate after another

No matter what the empirical evidence suggests. I suppose faith and mythology are wherever you find them.

Chalk one up for nihilism

Bad things happen for no reason at all. It's a universe without meaning or purpose, just random acts of anarchy perpetrated by whomever has the biggest club. All hail the fascist in all of us.

Original article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily

As always the rich teams subsidize the poor teams

Who turn around and whine how unfair it is that someone else has to underwrite them. Oh wait they don't complain about that. They complain about how their cities don't give them free stadiums.

Look no one made you plunk a team down in arctic tundra or in Florida where only alligators go outside in the summer. If you want a viable franchise then put it where it makes sense to put it.

How many MLB teams are in California? 5. Is every one of them a 'major market'? No, but that's not the driver toward success.

Embolden Empower

Get your clues right.

'Embolden' is what commie terrorist homosexual abortion demanding atheist lesbian feminist Koran waving Jew crackhead blacks do to help al Qaeda.

'Empower' means "sucks for you that you fell out of the fucking lifeboat".

Sean Hannity likes pie, RAWR!

Hannity might be clinically retarded. He's too dull to know when the building's coming down around his head.

Thursday, January 31, 2008 08:16 AM

Why not?

Toni Morrison is a very self indulgent writer who's best works read more like inner ruminations where nothing happens. Though she does have a skill at combining first and third person narratives together. Otherwise she seems lift wholesale from Zora Neale Hurston. I honestly do not understand the attraction.
