Why not? Markets don't need to worry about inflation

Stock markets, at best get mildly irritated by inflation. It's not an issue for them until inflation is extreme and capital investment goes elsewhere. Markets in fact like to see a real rate+ a fudge factor since that obscures a mountain of bad choices and weak management.

Now as to the underlying problems in credit? Sure, they'd love to see inflation take off. Credit problems evaporate that much faster when you're paying off last month's loss with next months' cheaper dollars.

So what the markets are looking for is moderate inflation driven from the bottom up. Ergo they'd like to see a temporary stimulus to the economy borne of jiggering the Fed rates.

William Timberman

Yes I know the difference between a Zodiac and a DDG or FFG.

...It shows intent. It shows a fairly flagrant disregard for the notion that in international waters, that's called piracy. So is hijacking an airliner by the way.

If one is willing to commit piracy openly then it's fairly safe bet there are few self imposed limits to what one may do at all.

By the by William, Iran currently mounts at least 3 types of shoulder fired/tripod fired missiles, one of which the Toophon is a variant of the American TOW. It has about a 2 mile range @ 650mph and is armor piercing. At sea level at that distance it's unbeatable. They also make a knock off AT3G Russian Sagger and something as simple as a boosted RPG-7.

It doesn't have to be hyperinflation

But 10-15-20% would work too. We've lived through 20% inflation in the early 80's.

No as a group that's true. Mostly because of Ob GYN. As a group.

Individually about 4/5ths of all healthcare consumed in your entire life is consumed in the last year of life. For most people that's old age, for women of childbearing age who are in fact bearing children that's skewed a little earlier.

Well this was just red meat to the wolves wasn't it?

Not even any point in reading it or the comments. Of course being an angry mob is arch, in context.

Yeah pretty much, why? Markets don't care all that much about inflation. They're not social welfare engines. Like it or not that's not what they do and how they function. It's simply a statement of fact.

Don't ask me, you're the nihilists

As a group, broadly speaking, that slice of Americana we call Salon, is populated by people who have already tossed just about every belief system under the sun, under the bus. The one thing you can all agree on, is that everyone else is a fool and the only thing you can truly believe in is yourself.

But what if yourself is an uninteresting shell? What if there's just not that much to ya? This is why people have faith, religion, spirituality of some kind. The notion that believing in awe, in something larger than one's self is a pretty common thread for the last, oh 10,000 years. But recently, in the last 150 or so people have decided that the only thing worth embracing is nothing. Ok, but you're no gem. That's why you're depressed.

I guess I'm unclear on this

Many many many many many people called on FDR to tell the Allied Air Force to bomb Auschwitz Birkenau. He categorically refused. And as to the general sense or public awareness, there were American best selling authors and journalists as early as 1937 who were publishing in the US detailed articles about the concentration camps. It wasn't a secret to anyone at the time. Perhaps the scale was but not the fact. Dachau for instance was opened by the Nazis to great fanfare, years BEFORE WW2.

So again, I'm a little baffled. Are you objecting to him repeating what many many many many people said openly to FDR at the time? At the least what FDR's Jewish contacts and Churchill's Jewish contacts asked for was to bomb the feeder rail lines into Auschwitz to at least disrupt the transport of more people into the camps. Even that was refused by Ike who's public statement was "The fastest way to end this war is to end this war" (source Ambrose's Biography of Ike).

There is a Talmudic phrase

Paraphrased, it says "God answers ALL prayers, but His concept of time is radically different from yours."

The Nano meets most EU emission standards today

It's no smaller than a SMART car.

It's small but it's safer than a scooter or a three-wheeler which is the other option they have. Few Indians are driving around in pickup trucks, SUV's and ricers with full on fart pipes and 10ft wings.

It's a car for over there, not here. But if they were to sell it over here it would cost the same as a Suzuki or an Aveo subcompact.

I guess most of your groundlings are too young to remember the Subaru 360 or the original 1100cc Honda CVCCs with the stick shift on the dash. Those were tiny cars too.

Well as long as we keep 3 million people behind bars in the US

It's all good. Sure let's close down Gitmo, there's time well spent. Foreign countries will like us more. Let's open all the jails in the US too. Hand them all streetmaps to the more liberal enclaves. Works for me. Because most people in jail are in jail for nonviolent drug crimes under mandatory drug sentencing. So I'm sure you won't mind.

(Actually you shouldn't nonetheless you'll never advocate convicts or exconvicts rights no matter how pretend-liberal you are. You never do.)
