Of course they did

They overestimated their own brilliance and thought that every slacker with a handful of Paxil and Adderal would flock to pay money for yet another 'product'. Wow were they wrong. I know their fans and no one I know paid a cent for it. Bad move, Thom.

If you don't maybe you should.

It can't be that millions of people are wrong and you alone are right.

Maybe you'll luck out and she'l hot-shot

That there's a self correcting problem. I for one tell everyone I know with an opiate and/or cocaine based jones to do as much shit as they can grab and save us all the worry. According the commercials funeral costs are only $6,000.

Well then they should tinker with their live shows and how those are marketed

They clearly threw out this album under the guise of truly hoping their fans would be 'nice' and pay them a reasonable price. But that's a silly thing to assume. Everyone knows that given the option people will pay zero. You don't need to test that. On the other hand with concert tickets at some venues going for $300 bucks perhaps they're just squeezing the balloon the same as everyone else and now it's come back to bite them.

Perhaps they should take a page from Phish - charge a lot less for tickets and market the produced CD's of their live shows for substantially more than the usual retail price of a CD. The reverse of that is counterintuitive and nonsensical. And that's why they backed off and marketed a CD version of the same product.

Well that or the fact that record companies own most of the live venues now so they can force the 'artists' to comply with just about any back end distribution deal they like.

Here's my solution

No one should be allowed to be legally married before age 30 or after 50. Because honestly you're probably an annoying bitch in your 20's or after mid life anyhow.

And really - the cat thing? Don't be a goddamn freak. Old people with a menagerie should be euthanized with their pets as a service to the rest of us.

Guatemala is changing the rules

Guatemala is changing that rules and this will put about 5000 pending adoptions at risk. I can understand that people want a risk free adoption process where the mother can't come after them 3 years later and reclaim the kid, but it looks like rich white people are going to have to bribe more bureaucrats moving forward to snatch up all those brown babies.

I am already sick to death of all of this

Is this what it's going to be? Wall to wall to wall to wall 24/7 coverage until November?

I give you folks more credit

I didn't bother 'combing' through the article like you did. What's the point? It's Walter Shapiro's Thursday morning backhanded swipe at all candidates not Hillary.

Silver City was a great movie

Stick to reviewing Heroes and/or Lost, please. Let's face it, Salon's critics churn out more or less the same column covering the same films over and over all year.

Ya gotta love the ambiguity

Being a lout is more or less the same thing as the untold hundreds of thousands murdered by the Inquisition or the maybe 50 million murdered in the Cultural Revolution. How do you people get out of bed every morning and not accidentally kill yourselves because you're so stupid?

I'm not convinced anyone knows how

Both sides of the aisle have been playing to the cheap seats for years. They neither of them have a 'plan' let alone the will or the brains to execute one. I understand most of the readers here simply put down the bong and shake their fist at the White House about everything and then go back to firing up, as if that's a solution. None the less Pakistan has never actually been a stable country. Mushareff has been in power since 1999 in (what is actually somewhat unique for Pakistan) a bloodless coup. Every leader before him including Bhutto was either killed or chased out of office at gunpoint. To say nothing of the untold millions who perished in the formation of Pakistan from India, or any of its three wars with India including the millions more killed in the formation of Bangladesh. It's always been an unstable volatile country and region. It stands to be the MOST populous Islamic country in the next 20-30 years. The idea that we or anyone else should have such an obvious hand over the lives of THE largest population of Muslims anywhere on the planet flies in the face of what most of you have been screaming about since 2001. So again, no one truly knows what to do about Pakistan and honestly, no one should intervene unless they want to precipitate yet another world wide jihad.

It's not nastiness at all

If you're going to spend upwards of $30-60,000 as some do to import a Guatemalan import it's done with the belief that these poor countries see it as everyone's advantage to do so. But - as I noted that countries, and other are changing the already insane rules to prevent these adoptions from going forward. In Guatemala for instance, an adoption was held up because the adoptive father's name left off "Jr." on one of the 147 forms required.

Clearly these nations are struggling with being viewed as baby factories for rich Americans but at the same time @ 30-60K a pop x 5000-6000 adoptions per year (Guatemala is the #2 source of foreign adoptions after China) you're talking upwards of 360 million dollars a year which in that poor country where GDP PPP is $5000 and 3 out of 5 people live below their own poverty line is nothing to shrug off. These countries can't afford to care for special needs children nor do other people want them. It's a tough choice.
