What shrinking violets you all are

I couldn't care less the noise and whatnot other people make. The plane itself is insanely loud crowded and unpleasant. I just don't believe the people here who claim their last flight they spent it meditating on one foot. Sorry. And if you really did you probably flew business class or 1st class which means you probably could have sprung for Bose headphones to silence the rabble.

The fact is, business travelers could make some use of this. It would be really good to be able to check one's mail after being out of pocket for several hours. Because most airports don't have free WiFi and it's a real pain to check your stuff before you grab a rental car.

See for all your whining about other people, I would happily see your spandex cinched fat ass in any other seat but next to mine.

BTW most 'free' WiFi AP's are pretty crappy and they conk out from overload pretty easily. Your just as likely to struggle with a connection. And when you get one, does that mean that you and a hundred of your fellow passengers are going to compete for the single uplink pipe? How big is that going to be?

I would merrily cut Janice's head off with a tile saw.

I think it should be a law that any time Janice Dickinson opens her stupid evil mouth someone should punch her in the teeth.

when Cardinal Richelieu died

The Pope commented "If there is a god he (Richelieu) will have a lot to answer, if not then he has done pretty well."

I don't care what you assume

You're an asshole and I don't care whether you live or die. So there - now grumble and fume and scream to your blog the next time you fly and there's no Tibetan incense to ensure your personal pleasure. Some of us have work to do.

Can't win for losing

Now the Panda Hugging Do-Gooders are inserting their values into the whole problem so that no middle class person should ever suffer the consequences of their own bad decisions. For the first time in recent history the capital bankers and the Birkenstock crowd are all lined up behind making the rational few of us left out there pay for everyone else. I hate all of you.

Well at least you're consistent

Here at Salon modern American Catholicism is the same thing as beating rape victims and stoning women to death.

The highly touted World Without Us.

Is more of a magazine article than a book. Oh it's entertaining. Especially when you realize that every single TV and radio interview including the many many interviews on NPR never got past page 25. But the best nonfiction of 2007?

C'mon you can read the whole book in 2 hrs.

But the Pilgers and Chomskys of the world are guilty of their own groupthink

In fact 'Pilger' is now a verb meaning to wildly sensationalize in order to arrive at a predetermined conclusion.

Again though -

Are they collecting royalties or are they suing their fans. If they're suing their fans then they're in the same deep shit as the recording industry; desperate, circling the drain and looking to squeeze a dollar from everyone before the lights go out. And the reason the recording industry is dying is not because of IP, it's because the recording industry killed itself with greed and inertia. So if Vivid (oddly, a North Carolina company in the Bible Belt's Buckle) is going after their audience they'd better be careful lest they piss them off too much. Because you can't stop file sharing. And you certainly can't turn off porn.

Portrait of the Artist as a young dysfunctional

Literature is littered with people with problems. I tend to want to ignore their personal stories and focus on their art.

I'm not voting anymore, there's no point

Time to brush up on another tongue and set sail for somewhere where at least everyone admits the government is a gaggle of craven criminal retards.

By 2024

The Presidential candidates will be slinging mud about each other's cell phone home porn tapes and passed out drunk photogs on Facebook. Years ago Eagleton had to drop out when it became public that he had been institutionalized for severe depression once. In the future all the candidates will be fighting over who's had the most rehab with celebrities.

So what?

Hemmingway was a drunk. Robert Lowell was clinically depressed. Sylvia Plath would fade to obscurity if she hadn't killed herself. But what about Eudora Welty, Flannery O'Conner and Katherine Anne Porter all apparently the most well adjusted and emotionally healthy people you could ever meet and yet their work spans the spectrum from romance to hard reality to the nearly psychotic.

It depends on why you care about it

To me I couldn't care less if my elected officials snort crank off a hooker's hipbones. But you have to consider that it IS illegal.

When the IDF entered Hevron in 1967

Hundreds of now ex Jordanians fled on their own because the mayor took great pains to point out to the inhabitants there that the Israels might not take too kindly to the 1929 Massacre in Hevron where hundreds of Jews were killed in the streets by your typical screaming mob of peace. Of course there was no retaliation and the eventual Jewish 'occupiers' of Hevron in fact live 15km away on a brown hill of nothing called Kiryat Arba, but hey when did facts ever get in the way?

CarolynC

I come from a long line of immigrants who bailed when it turned to shit. Only an idiot would stand up to a tsunami on principles. There is nothing special, or, as we like to say, EXCEPTIONAL about America or Americans. If it doesn't work out here, and it doesn't look like it will, we'll pull up our tents and decamp from some other place where the criminals, liars, dictators and assholes are honest about that.

Hell isn't the great GG an expat?

I wonder what Maxthon et al would have to say

Maxthon is the 'zippiest' of all browsers and yet it is built on the IE engine. It's from China and has spotty English support and occasionally odd/brokem multimedia but it's wicked fast. In fact there's a whole community of add-on browsers that built on IE w/o the IE crud overhead.
