  • What is so bad if they ARE different

[Read the article: Tonka trucks are made for boys!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This all seems not an argument that boys and girls aren't the same, but that the girls and their advocates want more. I think at least that much honesty is required. Because if you really want to hang at the lunch table with your all so fem Lady Boys let us know. Or tell us which one, is supposed to be the man in the relationship.

I'm not convinced you want absolute equality. I think what you want is a little more choice in who gets to decide who is more equal than whom.

  • Is "Hitler" any different than

[Read the article: Hitlers, Hitlers and more Hitlers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The left leaning canard of smearing anything it doesn't like as 'neocon' or 'zionist'? No it's not. It's just shorthand.

  • What is the list of attributes you're looking for Gary?

[Read the article: Is a new conservatism possible?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Isolationist

    Limited (very limited) government

    Weak Federalism

    State's rights

Loose interpretation of the Constitution (in terms of the focus of the Supreme court). Some would say that a real conservative would turn back the John Marshall court and go back to the pre 19th c era of using the SC to interpret contract law and interstate issues exclusively.

    No central bank

    No Federal regulation at all

Aside from the pro slavery stance and agrarian aristrocracy, one could say the ultimate conservative was Patrick Henry. In fact one could argue that states should rule up to the point that they can issue their own currency and enter into their own treaties. This way all the social issues would solve themselves. If the people of one state want polygamy but no gay marriage, then those laws apply. If another wants all drugs legalized, ditto. And so on. That's really the only kind of conservatism we should worry about. Perhaps Lincoln was wrong on this point and we can lay the blame of where we are today at his feet. If the Confederacy were allowed to thrive then all those problems we have trying to reconcile the conservatives with the non conservatives might have been avoided.

  • A label is whatever you make it

[Read the article: Hitlers, Hitlers and more Hitlers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't actually hear people claiming to be baby eating Arab murdering Iran bombing zealots. That's more of what you folks call them. It's like calling someone a nigger (or a racist for that matter). It's not meant to enter into a discussion with them, but 180degrees the opposite of that.

But whatever, if all the people who you disagree with are baby eating blood matzah neocons, that's your deal, not mine. I've never met any. Point them out and we'll all know to stay clear of them. Thanks.

BTW don't waste your effort railing and shouting at me as if that anger accomplishes something.

  • I am vaguely familiar with the FIRST Indochina war

[Read the article: Not taking it to the streets]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The one the French fought through 1954. They lost 90,000 people twice that the US suffered. And if truth be told there wasn't much grassroots objection. It was the political elite, the leadership that lost hope and quit. If anything public ire reached its peak during the most pacifist period of modern French history - 1968. So sometimes protest is directly related to the absence of the possibility of consequences not the other way around.

I hadn't heard that Egypt will have the bomb. Can't say it's an entirely bad idea though. I would also like to see Saudi Arabia and Syria get the bomb, just to keep you know who in line.

  • What if you have some really politically incorrect tattoos?

[Read the article: If Britney Spears shouldn't be naked in front of her kids, what about me?]

Oh well I guess they're probably heard what you think anyway. It will make parent teacher conferences interesting though when little Kaylie or Kyle start scribbling swastikas and such.

So? Are middle class people giving away billions?

    I'm with ya.

  • What-ever

[Read the article: Hitlers, Hitlers and more Hitlers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's just a little sad that everyone gets all upset about nouns. for what it's worth, so many people here don't even think about the hate speech that pours out of their own faces. Would using someone more obscure than Hitler impress you? William Sherman? Tamurlane? Some Aztec Emperor? Whichever Pope declared that all the Hugenots must be killed? You're the 'meme' people, so pick another one.

  • There are some worth shunning and hating

[Read the article: We're prejudiced, now what?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Creationists, neocons, zionists, Republicans. I'm sure there are others.

  • I wouldn't trust my neighbors to walk my dog

[Read the article: Why Iowa matters]

Regular guys, my butt. Do we really believe than anyone in a flannel shirt is Socrates?

  • It's a cultural argument not a racial one

[Read the article: We're prejudiced, now what?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And I agree, all cultures are valid. From the Danish social democratic model to the cannibals, slavers, female genital mutilators. Who are WE to suppose that we're any better or different than anyone else. This whole silly notion that we have to enforce so called modernity on anyone. We'd be better off if we climbed down to their level.

  • I live among a big Hispanic community too

[Read the article: A job well done by Tom Tancredo]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's a quaint myth that they're all one step above slavery. Maybe that helps the left sleep at night to think that but reality tells me they're the roofers and rough carpenters, concrete guys. And when you go to Wal*Mart they're 90% of the shoppers there buying the same goods and merchandise as 'regular' liberals. Hell they even drive cars. I'm not sure what constitutes poverty where the letter writers live but $16-$19/hr for construction work when you don't speak much English and rarely pay taxes is not that. One reason that illegal immigration will never get fixed is the overt patronizing attitude I see every day that somehow they need to be cradled and managed like poor children.

  • The problem with the Dems

[Read the article: The Democratic duel of the race]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Is that they're programmed to kill one another, not the GOP. When there is a Dem nominee that person will still be on Kill Democrat autopilot and will forget about the other party which will, unless something incredibly dumb happens, kill and eat the Mule. Sorry to point out the obvious but this is how it normally goes. The Dems will always get lost in the weeds fighting each other. And that's a shame because they have potential to bring something valuable to the table.

  • Every day at Salon

[Read the article: The most interesting debate yet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There are at least three pieces which boiled down, amount to "No Democratic candidates were arrested with a dead hooker and a bag of crack, today. No one spaced out and declared themselves emperor of the volcano. We win!"
