  • regarding "Choice"

[Read the article: Is "choice" really all we're fighting for?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I disliked "pro choice" ever since is appeared as an antithesis to "pro life." I did not have a problem with "pro legalized abortion" and still don't.

We are fighting for control over our bodies against those that would control them. By the very nature of what we are, that involves decisions regarding birth and death....Even murder, or a form of murder.

We can't shirk from this. Frankly, I do think there is an immorality involved when we shirk from this. Call it a fetus, a baby, a blob of cells....abortion is disgusting. Most people know this.

But we don't want anyone, especially, those who have no respect for us, and for whom we have no respect for, deciding that we cannot have one.

I will fight for my daughter's right to have one, if in her life, she ever decides that is the best decision.

Call it what it is...we want the power to control the birth of a child from our bodies.

It is OK to call it what it is. It is life, it is murder, or a form of murder, and it is our decision. I can't think of a better word than "choice," let me sleep on it.

i have to think about this but, let this run, and then it is up to democrats to show clip by clip, on sunday morning talk shows, fantasy versus reality. take the opportunity to debunk right-wing myths...

my beleif is it will tank in the ratings. but might indeed give the democrats an opportunity to highlight popular lies.

but DO DEBUNK it, the democrats have been AWFUL at fighting back.

  • Get over it.

  • I Lost Trust

[Read the article: What we lost]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A few days after 9/11, I was on a cnn.com bulletin board with hundreds of posts expressing their thoughts about that horrible crisis. I posted a post something to the effect of "I did not vote for you Mr. President but I am 100% behind you now. Godspeed Mr. President." I can't remember the exact wording. I truly felt deep in my heart that the divisions of the awful 2000 presidential election needed to be put aside. I needed to get behind Bush and the government and we needed to be united. cnn.com took my post and highlighted it into a sidebar. We were united in our grief and our resolve.

Bushco abused that trust for their own agenda. THAT is what angers me so much.

We handed over our trust in time of crises, and they did the most unspeakable thing. They used that trust for their own purpose WHILE shoving aside the original crisis AND abused fellow Americans who dared ask questions about their war drums.

I lost trust, I lost my naiveté. I learned how willfully ignorant people stay even when presented with facts. I learned to what depths fellow Americans will sink when called a traitor to my face. I will teach my children to never trust politicians and never never never never trust a Republican. I don't know where my country is, nor what my country is anymore. This still hurts.

  • Live and Let Live

[Read the article: Come as you are]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Reading this I was very much reminded of the Hare Krishna’s, except for the selling of flowers on pipe cleaners in airports and street corners. I knew a couple in the 70's. A central temple and a community of houses. Tended to draw from the disenfranchised and disillusioned drug/rock crowd.

Other than the aggressive flower selling, I really didn't have a problem with them then, and I really don't have problems with people living in communal settings now. As long as they don't preach to my kids, live and let live. If they preach to my kids, I will feel very free to preach to theirs that their moms perceives themselves as walking incubators and have traded their brains for security.

    That is certainly nothing new.

That is their business, none of mine. Anyone is free to believe in the rapture and whatever they think it takes to be included in it. Anyone is free to find what makes them feel secure in an insecure world.

  • Because they want to believe it.

[Read the article: Why are so many Americans still hoodwinked?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Periodically there are studies showning how many people beleive in UFO's, complicated Kennedy assination theories, etc. Why should this be any different?

People emotionally invested in these ideas tune out critism becuase to not do so would threaten their ideas of who they themselves are.

Who of us does not fall lightly or deeply into that?
