The "ladies night" thing is stupid...

But this guy does have one point right:

Belief in equality of genders (analagous to equality of races): egalitarian or humanist

Favored focus on issues and rights of one gender: feminism.

-------------

That statement - at least from me - is not necessarily a knock against feminism. And certainly some feminists may believe that men and women should have equal rights, freedoms, responsibilities etc.

But feminism at its heart champions women...not equality. Which is why, if/when asked, I call myself an egalitarian.

--------------

The turning point for me was listening to a Minneapolis state senator, Phyllis Kahn (1st-generation, old guard PUMA feminist) talk about her platform awhile back during an election season.

She mentioned improvement of women's healthcare as a primary objective. I asked from the audience why she wasn't focusing on healthcare reform for everyone (implying but not explicitly including male infants, boys and men.)

She replied that healthcare for men was already good enough.

(Ironically, later that very day there was a story about the Kamen foundation raising millions of dollars for breast cancer...while male prostate cancer never gets so much as a whiff of coverage).

Can ya guess whether I voted for her? Anyone?

Yup...the answer is NO.

"I'm sure that loads of guys out there would love to be able to share their passion between the ears and between the sheets at the same time, and have them spiral out of control into a self-perpetuating lovefest. Can't we have our relationships (no matter how superficial or short-lived) and our geekery too?"

No, you cannot. Not unless you are the Trekkie world's equivalent of Brad Pitt.

Yes, there are cool dork/nerd/gamer girls out there. Unfortunately for all the 'Magic The Gathering' level 15 mages, out there, the dork male: dork female ratio is 100,000 to 1.

Just attend any Dungeons & Dragons convention if you doubt me!

So for now, dorkwads, refrain from telling your date about your latest World of Warcraft conquests...or venting about how a stage prop detail error in the 37th "BattleStar Galactica" episode caused you to involuntarily defecate in sheer rage.

It's your choice - quality time with a real, human girl...or back to ol' Righty, your hentai (anime porn) tape and that dwindlin' bottle of baby oil.

Why not have them repeat the routines?

Many sports have a sudden-death overtime, etc. to settle who is the victor.

Wimbledon, the Superbowl, the Masters, the World Series, the world curling Championships....they find a way to crown the BEST.

Two golds just does not seem right (the exception being a photo finish, and nowadays with video technology down to 0.0001 seconds, even that no longer is an issue).

----------------

So why not have a repeat of routines by each of the top 2 competitors?

Physically grueling? Sure...but so is overtime.

Lots of pressure? Sure...but so is overtime.

And the one with the better 2nd routine gets crowned the true #1 / gold winner.

The other gymnast? Has to settle for silver...not the end of the world.

Most importantly, the value of the gold medal is maintained.

Exactly, timbuktom

While it is asking a lot to turn in exceptional back-to-back performances, I think it's the fairest way.

And Jennifer, using the prelim score might make sense...but in a way, it boils down to the same need for maxing out effort, etc. on two performances/routines, doesn't it? I.e. it is sort of a de facto repeat; but it might attract more attention to prelim competitions. I for one really only pay attention to the finals in the current system.

Sour grapes, racism...or both?

Why am I not surprised that upper-middle-class white "Democrats" would rather vote for the old white guy than the younger black guy?

Why am I not surprised that white feminists would sooner vote for the white patriarchal male than the liberal black guy who failed to read the entitlement memo that Hilary was supposed to run uncontested (and that anyone who challenged her coronation was by default misogynist)?

How many of these PUMAs - male or female - would cross the street nervously if a black man was walking towards them?

****sigghhh***

Well, at least the dynamics between white American women and black American men have changed from these days:

That's progress, right?

Original article: ... Or me?

Would you be complaining about this...

If they opened a Banana Hammock cafe as well - with buff, handsome dudes in only boxer briefs, etc. serving as baristas?

Didn't think so.

The Rev. Fred Phelps - y'know, leader of your Westboro Baptist Church - wants to know why you missed the last protest?

Original article: "The Rocker"

Hannaham to 40-something Xers: You dang kids get off my lawn!

As a tail-end Xer / early Gen Y member, I can verifiably attest that current mainstream rock & roll is a fuckin' joke.

Yes, there are cool bands on the fringe like TV on the Radio - but the fact that the biggest acts right now in rock & roll are the easy-listening-but-somehow-considered-rock Coldplay and the Abercrombie-punk, "sum 41" wannabes of Vampire Weekend.

Britney, N'Sync, American Idol, Justin TimberLake, Limp Bizkit, Blink-sum-182-Lavigne-41-boi.

An entire generation has grown up fed only on these dead-eyed talentless whores.

I don't blame the kids, though...it's not their fault they never had early U2, early Metallica, GnR, Nirvana, Mudhoney, Babes in Toyland or any other decent tunes for their generation.
